Permalink Reply by Kaki H on April 3, 2011 at 10:27pm It's very non-holistic of me, but truthfully? Therapy and Lexapro. I am getting better on mindful activities though. Lexapro is not a cure-all. It helps with my GAD, but doesn't solve life's problems :)
For example, the other day I got home and felt stressed out. I had a bad day at work, had to get dinner going, wanted to clean up and wasn't having a great body image at that particular moment. What did I do? Regrouped and made some adjustments. No, I couldn't exercise for an hour and get everything else I wanted to do done. But, I could go walk outside for 30 minutes and still get things done! So that's what I did, and after 30 minutes in the fresh air, with my blood pumping, I felt amazing!! Suddenly, my other chores weren't so intimidating. My day at work wasn't a huge deal--I'd try again tomorrow.
Not sure if it was the exercise, clear thinking and deep breath, or being among nature, but either way, it worked for me!

Permalink Reply by Cherae Mabry on April 23, 2011 at 10:24am I use yoga as to relieve stress. Using the breath with movement definitely calms the mind. Stress is the result of the sympathetic nervous system (flight or fight). Yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing you to rest and renew.
I love yoga as method of stress relief.
