I am downgrading from a home to a condo and have this magnificent dining room set that all my life kept covered.  Now that the children are gone and the condo is much smaller I want to begin eating our dinners and lunches at the table.  I also intend to begin using all my China that has been sitting in cupboards except for holidays.

The table is magnificent and I don't want to keep it covered like I did when the kids were young so do I go ahead and eat on the table even if it means scratches?

The table is lovely. Beautiful things are meant to be used and enjoyed in my opinion.

When you say you keep it covered, do you mean with a tablecloth or table pads + cloth or do you have a different solution in place?

There are some nice placemats available that would protect the table from your place setting, but still leave the table clear so that you can enjoy it.

BTW, if you are breaking out the china, remember to break out the cloth napkins and candles as well for a little extra ambience.

Cheers!
