"Sounds like a wonderful resolution--good luck! See our article in the January issue: "This is Your Year of Living Fearlessly." Many people are scared of taking the leap and starting their own business.... In your case, the flying leap is…"

Alex Postman commented on Jen Russon's blog post 'About Last Night: a Straight-up Confession of How Bad My Diet is in the Days Leading Up to the 28-Day Challenge'
"Hi Jen, I feel your pain! I have three young kids; sometimes I find the only way to squeeze in any time for myself is to wake up early (like, in the dark) and either just sit with the paper or do some pushups. As for pre-Action Plan…"

Alex Postman commented on Angela Taraskiewicz's blog post 'Women Without Helmets'
"Table-cloth weights are a genius idea. Let me know how that goes! I just sat down at my computer after biking 5 miles from Brooklyn to Manhattan--it's almost 90 degrees here and I'd love to know from you and anyone else in the community…"

Alex Postman commented on Angela Taraskiewicz's blog post 'Women Without Helmets'
"Hi Angela, I hear you! The footnote was indeed too small; as someone who bikes to work regularly I did not intend to send a message that helmets are optional (or give you bad hair--who cares?). I think a round-up of cool-looking helmets is a great…"

"Yeah, my husband hasn't totally fallen in line--we still have a roll in the house. But we're using cloth napkins (I like Amanda's suggestion of different colors for each family member) and I'm managing to clean up the big spills…"

Nikki B commented on Alex Postman's blog post 'Going Paper Towel-less, Week 1'

Making Bite-Sized Green Changes, One at a Time

I have this little fiction going about myself, that at some point—always in the very near future—I’ll be able to implement all at once the changes I’ve been so diligently planning (oh, the piles of magazine clips and self-help books!), from finally starting to compost to beginning a morning yoga practice. And then, naturally, the days and then weeks slip by, with a pile of excuses and no action. Of course, any wise person would say it’s more effective to execute plans in manageable morsels.…See More

"I really don't like the focus on your breathing meditations either. Oddly enough, since I thought they were impossible at first, I find a visualization meditation (say on a white light) much easier to generate focus. Have you thought about…"

Elizabeth McGorty commented on Alex Postman's blog post 'Taking the Express to Inner Calm: Subway Meditation?'
"Subway meditation, love it. I agree with Caitlin, and suggest listening to music, as silence during public transit is not possible. :) I perfer classical, as it has no lyrics to distract me (and highly recommend Joshua Bell's Romance of the…"

Going Paper Towel-less, Week 1

Posted on April 2, 2010 at 10:30am 3 Comments

At the beginning of the week, I vowed to give up paper towels. With three kids spilling every liquid imaginable around the house (milk, bubbles, disappearing ink), this is a tall challenge.

^ My son, Charlie, shaking his head at my latest go-green effort. ^

I have finally trained them to contribute to the clean-up, but they reach for paper towel as automatically as I do. I have also come home from work to find that my 4-year… Read more
