"Carolyn, that's so scary- glad to hear you're on the mend though! I love that you're not letting this get you down. Once your body is ready, come back full force. We'll all still be here to support you!"

hopefully regaining my energy

The past few days I have not been able to write because I became extremely ill. I had a urinary tract infection (UTI) and was on antibiotics but it wasn't clearing up. I was planning to go to my doctor on Monday to figure out what to do next, but I woke up at 2:00 by my own teeth chattering. I was in a great deal of pain and I had a fever of 103.The infection had spread through the urinary tract up toward my kidneys.I was torn because I did not want my son to see my in that state. I became…See More

"Dear Patti, You are not whiney! You are observant. I believe your conscious thoughts do bring change. I'm really proud of you for continuing with yoga. A lot of people I know (starting with my husband) would not/could not even think of going…"

"I am having so much trouble eating wheat and dairy now, even in moderation! I always feel so gassy and bloated the next day. But I still love meat. Oh yes, what are we going to do? It's going to be fine. Pessimism, like the rain, will pass."

the best laid plans...

Last night I attended a "Robert Burns Supper" night, an all-Scottish extravaganza. Let me quote Burns: "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry."My best-laid plans of this program went... awry. I did not overeat, but still the amount of red meat (umm you don't want to know what was in the haggis... red meat bits, let's say) and cream make me feel heavy this morning.Good to note that. I don't think I've had any red meat, except for some in some soup, since Jan. 4. So I definitely want…See More

I seem to be hitting a doldrums, but I am aware that (1) doing something is better than nothing, and (2) I can repeat what I've succeeded at before! The rain shouldn't really stop me from exercising, but being a southern Californian, I'm not prepared for walking in wet weather. I like the beautiful images people are posting. Here are 2 from our backyard in summer:The gym was closed on Monday, so Monday spontaneously became my "off" day -- just when we were supposed to be "amping up"! My…See More

"Beautiful and inspiring. I too appreciate the way you figured out the cumulative -- and that there are many opportunities to keep going. One creamy meal out of 75 is OK; one out of 150 is very good. The bigger change is the shift in your (my, our)…"

At least I had a healthy snack at the ready when I was ATTACKED by a craving at about 3:00 pm. Instead of the chocolate and latte that I would have had previously, I had a handful of salted, roasted pepitas. On the list. 1/4 cup.

And then I had another handful. And another. And another.

A new voice questioned me at that point : was I still hungry? and: what is triggering this? I couldn't identify any stressors, other than a stiff neck and shoulder tension.... oh the muscle… Read more
