Reflecting back on the past month

Posted on January 28, 2010 at 5:50pm 3 Comments

I can't believe the month is almost over. When I first signed on to participate in the plan I was unsure how successful I'd be. I have had mixed results; I have not lost weight but I haven't gained any either. I have increased the amount of vegetables and fruit I eat each day and find myself to be more mindful of my eating habits. It's difficult; I teach fifth grade and my day is often hectic, causing me to reach for whatever is easiest. I have been unable to work on my core and to do yoga as I… Read more

The Halfway Point

It is hard to believe we have reached the halfway point in this journey. I have had mixed results but have learned many lessons along the way. I never did the complete detox, but I have been more conscious of including fruits and vegetables in my diet. I am more mindful of my eating habits; when I go to the dining hall at lunch I mentally repeat the mantra 'Eat mindfully, mainly fruits and vegetables.' It has been helping, I have been less inclined to head straight to the sandwich bar. I have… Read more

Grade for first week...B

Posted on January 10, 2010 at 7:40pm 1 Comment

Well, the first week has passed with mixed results. I never did do the detox, but I did try to eat healthy all week. I only had a few setbacks where I broke down and had an ice cream bar or cookie. It has been more difficult than I had thought it would be, mainly because last week was also my first week back to school after six cycles of chemotherapy. I had forgotten just how exhausting it is to be 'on' all day (I teach fifth grade) and re-acclimating myself with my daily routines was a little… Read more

First hurdle: getting organized!

Posted on December 28, 2009 at 10:32am 2 Comments

Okay, so today I downloaded detox recipes, food journal pages, week one fitness goals...I'm feeling a little bit better about managing everything. I'm still not thrilled about most of the detox smoothies but am going to bite the bullet and try even some of the less tasty sounding ones. I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around the idea of drinking carrots and kale!
