Sneaky Gluten

I was feeling a little bad for a couple of weeks. Not terrible, just kind of like I was fighting a little virus or something~ bit of a headache, less energy, skin looking bad, vague sense of un-well-ness. After about a week I started thinking, wait a minute, this feels like gluten! But what could it be? My diet has not varied much lately and I rarely eat out and the symptoms were persisting, telling me I was taking it in continually but it seemed in low doses because of how stealthily the bad…See More

Lentil Soup Version 8.0 or so

It's that time of year again, and waking up to the rain this morning confirmed it even more so than the kids climbing aboard the big yellow bus again~ it's fall and soup weather has taken over for the next 9 months. This weekend my soup looked liked this: warmed one chopped yellow onion with olive oil, added a leek, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, and 3 cloves garlic, all chopped into small bits and stirred for a couple of minutes. Then I added a splash of balsamic vinegar and another splash of…See More

Food in the News

This week there have been three disturbing stories in the news concerning food. Here is the first I heard: Death by Bacon? It basically says that eating red meat every day increases one's risk of all kinds of bad things, such as cancer and heart disease. Is this really news? How many times can that be said and reported and studied (thanks, Harvard, for that earth…See More

Dilemma~

I have a dilemma that is not exactly worthy of dear Abby, but it bothers me all the same. My younger son eats very few foods and most days doesn't like eating at all. (Can't say I can relate to that!) What he does like is sugar, in any form and lots of it. In fact he's the biggest sugar fiend I've ever seen and he reacts to it too~ gets crazed right away. While at Whole Foods last night, and yes, that is indeed where I spend many a Saturday night, I noticed a new cereal~  it was by…See More

Gluten Free Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Scones

This is actually a work in progress although they turned out pretty good, it was my first attempt at it and next time I will try to tweak the recipe a bit. I used the dry/wet proportions from Flying Apron's blueberry cinnamon scones, just to give credit where it is due. Here's the recipe:2.75 C + 1 T of oat flour 1.5 C brown rice flour1 t…See More

Gluten Free Gingerbread Cookies (Egg free too!)

These were easy and turned out quite well, despite the fact the only cookie cutters I found in our supply drawer were an ornament and a moose/reindeer. (It looks kind of, but not completely like either animal.) I looked at a regular recipe from Cooks.com, then changed it into gluten free and added a bit more spice. Here's the finished recipe:1/2 C. butter3/4 C. molasses2 T. sugar1.5 C gf oat flour.5 C brown rice flour plus extra for rolling the dough out3/4 t. xantham gum1 t. baking soda3/4 t.…See More

Gluten Free in Lego Land California

Traveling with food allergies is never done without a whole lot of thought. I get nervous when I travel that I will accidentally eat gluten in something, or that I won't be able to find anything gluten free when I am really hungry. To ease my nervousness I brought quite a few gluten free bars, both Kind bars and NuGo Free ones. It…See More

Baby Carrots

This is just a short little discovery that has had me giddy of late. Normally my kids will eat baby carrots with a bit of an eye roll or, from my younger one, all out fury, but lately I've been putting them in a small bowl on the coffee table while they watch a movie or music or whatever, and they gobble them down. Seriously, they jump on the bowl as if it held buttery popcorn or chocolate kisses, every single time. Part of it has to be the fact I just put out one bowl~ it gets their…See More

Essential Oils Part 3

OK, there are so many things to do with essential oils that this could in fact be a never ending subject, so I am going to keep this simple. One way to easily start scenting your home is to drop an oil onto a light bulb, or put a few drops onto cotton balls and place them in hidden spots. (Some essential oils, such as peppermint, actually discourage mice and other critters, flies and moths loathe Lavandin.) You can add a few drops of oil to distilled water in a sprayer bottle and use as an air…See More

Essential Oils Part 2

There is a common story, which I cannot confirm, that the perfumers of Europe were the least likely to get the plague because of their constant contact with lavender. There is a wonderful little article on the history of lavender that does say that lavender repels fleas which carried the plague, and that people all through history have used it for it's healing benefits (…See More

Greetings from the Tampa Bay :) My name is Lea, and I am the author of the Mother Baby Child Blog - http://motherbabychildblog.com. I started this blog to share my experience in having a baby just before my 1st son was about to turn 18 years old, as well as what life is like as a married mom after being single for so many years. I also blog about Christianity, baby and child stages, homeschooling, ADHD, Autism, Blog Marketing, etc. I share a lot on that blog during the non-summer seasons.

I also have a new healthy lifestyle and 90 day weight loss challenge blog - http://www.loseweightgethealthyfeelgreat.com - to accompany my Skinny Body business. I am working hard to complete the design of this new blog, so that I can provide valuable health and linformation, as well as my experience with our 90 day weight loss challenge. I gained quite a bit with this last baby, so I am struggling along with it. The plus is that we have gone all natural / organic foods and started an organic garden. It's lots of fun for the family, plus it's awesome to provide the children with food that I know is pesticide free.

I invite you to explore my blogs and provide your feedback.

Now that my baby is older, I have more time to meet more people that are genuinely interested in being as healthy as they can be. I am really excited about this!

I look forward to networking with you :)

Hugs & Blessings!
