I heartd on the radio today that that 'lovely' slice of meat we think we're buying in the supermarket is really little leftover bits of meat stuck together! The report was about false advertising, and that people should know what…

Taking Steps

According to the man on the radio today, a (healthy) person should take ten-thousand steps a day. Ten-thousand steps?! Doesn't that seem like a lot to you? It sure does to me. We're talking regular steps, which is what, about 4 feet? Think about it: if you take ten-thousand steps a day, it means you're walking about 7 1/2 miles a day without even going anywhere! This got me thinking: how can a person possibly take that many steps in one day? Considering we have a pretty big property (about…See More

When I say 'other cardio' in how I stay active, I really mean: running after, carrying & lifting my kids, Mia (3 1/2) and Bram (2)!

What's Up with Upcycling?

Posted on April 28, 2010 at 5:30am 0 Comments

The term 'upcycling' originates from the book 'Cradle to Cradle - Remaking the Way We Make Things', by William McDonough and Michael Braungart that came out in 2002. Since then it's been a sort of guidebook for folks like me, who believe strongly in the 3 R's - Reusing, Reducing and Recycling. It's a way of life for me, as well as the foundation of my business. Although there are folks going green all around me, I would've expected a bigger eco-boom in the eight years 'Cradle to Cradle' has… Read more

Can Anyone Relate...?

Posted on April 27, 2010 at 3:00pm 0 Comments

I have a brain so I can think about the kids.

I have a mouth so I can vocalize what I think the kids want.

I have a nose so I can smell when the kids have a dirty diaper.

I have ears so I can hear if the kids are crying.

I have eyes so I can see when the kids are doing something they shouldn't be doing.

I have a lap so the kids have a place to sit down.

I have legs so I can run after the kids.

I have arms so I can carry the kids when they've fallen… Read more
