Meditation can help everyone...

This is a truly amazing story about convicts on death row in Alabama who are learning how to meditate and the amazing impact it has had on their mindfulness, anger, and redemption. Listen to the story on NPR. Very touching.http://www.npr.org/2011/02/08/133505880/at-end-of-the-line-prison-an-unlikely-escape -Nico (still trying to master the art of meditation)See More

Hi Nicolette, Miso can be used as a cheese substitute; also nutritional yeast flakes on top of pasta or in salads. My husband, Chef Al, makes a delicious condiment with miso for his tempeh reubens. Also, you can use nuts. There are many recipes for…

Dairy-Free Virgin...

Ok, I am pledging to (TRY to) go dairy-free for one month. I am also French and Italian, cheese is in my blood, I have about three types in the fridge right now. Ive heard a lot about how dairy messes with your digestion, nasal passages and skin and I've had enough of all three problems and I'm testing out a dairy-free month. Im on day 2, actually, more like day 1.5 since I got my coffee yesterday morning automatically with milk, just habit (d'oh!)Does anyone have any good recommendations for…See More

I said yes-I apply to my face everyday, unless its rainy/cloudy. I have a family history of skin cancer so the sun freaks me out. I thought I was being really good about it until I recently read something about how the chemicals they use in…

Bored of the gym?

Well I really am. I can't stand the fruitless running-in-place on a treadmill like a hamster boredom anymore. So I gave up my costly gym membership (If I go twice a month, is it really worth it?) and am in search of new and creative ways to workout. I used to be a ballet dancer eons ago, so I love classes with lots of sweaty people, its really gets the momentum going. I also recently saw Whip It and have become obsessed all over again (last was when I was 12) with roller derby. I mean, look at…See More

Creepy. Definitely creepy. Well, most of them. Surgery is a scary thing and usually the outcome is freakier than the original. Don't mess with your face! Beauty is being able to accept yourself and wear it proud (this coming from someone who…

I grew up without any paper napkins and there were always tons of dish towels and napkins around the house to clean stuff up with. I recently had my boyfriend's family over and when I gave his 5-year old nephew a cloth napkin to wipe his face,…

Gabourey Sidibe Healthy Weight Image?

Posted on March 16, 2010 at 7:59pm 4 Comments

I want to put this out there-after seeing Precious (which was amazing), I applauded the acceptance of a bigger woman into Hollywood. I also started wondering if it's a healthy weight image for women to have such a large woman as an example in the media.

In Hollywood, where the gorgeous Christina Hendricks is considered "big", and with all the stick-figures with balloon boobs, we have a woman who would be considered morbidly obese by most standards in the mix now. Does the pendulum… Read more
