Make the Time

I hear people discussing the reason behind not exercising or eating healthy, and the root is always the same - there's just not enough time. Life is moving too fast to take the time to get to the gym, to spend a lunch hour on a long walk, and there's certainly not enough time to spend 45 minutes in the kitchen preparing dinner each night. Here's the thing: we make time for those things we deem important. And yes, we do seem to be crunched for time these days, whether it's working longer hours,…See More

Dealing with Fear

I seem to struggle a lot these days with fear. It's annoying, because I can remember a time when I was younger and never considered the possibility of failure or looking stupid or anything else that is at the root of fear. I kind of wish I had that innocence ignorance (they're close relatives, aren't they?), but I guess that's what comes with experience. With that in mind, I'll share something I have possibly shared before, but it's definitely worth repeating. I read this on a running forum page…See More

Love Languages

If you've been through pre-marital counseling at a church (or church-related entity) recently, you've probably been instructed to read Gary Chapman's, The Five Love Languages as part of your program. For those of you not familiar with Chapman's book, he proposes that there are five basic languages of love that we speak in all of our relationships. The languages are:Words of AffirmationActs of ServicePhysical TouchReceiving GiftsQuality TimeWe all speak a primary and secondary love language, and…See More

Celebrating Love

It's the time of year when our thoughts (and eyes, thanks to retailers) turn to the idea of love. Valentine's Day is supposed to be a day to celebrate the romance in our lives, but I think it should be more about celebrating the love in our lives. Love can be romantic, familial, platonic, and the most amazing of all, unconditional. To be loved, in some way, is to feel successful in life, no matter the circumstances. When we feel at our lowest, sometimes hearing that we are loved can bring us…See More

That sounds great Michelle. When it comes to collard greens or really any leafy green like that I'm always at a loss as to what to do. I try to saute them but nobody in my family enjoys that! I'll try a soup next time! Tiffany, I'm…

My inlaws are portuguese & although I have tried many of their dishes, the one I like the most is a soup called Caldo Verde. It's made w/ potatoes, chourizo(spicey sausage), olive oil, salt & collard greens. I'm not fond of…

Michelle commented on Tiffany Britton's blog post 'My Responsibility. Your Responsibility.'
I agree that it's worth the effort now rather than dealing with the health issues later. It can be overwhelming to always stay on top of everything & work full time. I'm trying to find inspiration from those around me.

Catherine Garcia commented on Tiffany Britton's blog post 'Almond Milk'
HI Tiffany, Thanks for sharing the almond milk recipe. I am trying to limit dairy intake and it seems that all the almond milk at the store, even the organic brands, is full of additives. I will definitely try making this recipe. My favorite item to…

Best Idea/Worst Idea?

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 7:53am 0 Comments

Tonight's dinner was inspired by a Martha Stewart video podcast I watched yesterday. It was old footage from her show, one of the early appearances Jennifer Garner made, and they were making a Thanksgiving dinner. Side note: if you've never seen Jennifer Garner as a guest on The Martha Stewart Show, it's such a fun experience. Most guests are there to promote whatever they're releasing into film or music, but Jennifer is always there for her private cooking lesson from Martha herself. She…

Advice, Or Being A Nosy Parker?

Posted on February 20, 2012 at 12:19pm 0 Comments

I try to not give unsolicited advice unless is truly comes from a place of love - meaning unless I feel that I can actually help the person with my words, I keep my opinions to myself.

Do you ever find yourself knowing you could help someone with a challenge they face in life, but offering the help would mean acknowledging that you feel they have a problem? What do you do?
