"I froze a lot of zucchini to use over the winter.  One thing that my son really likes is to make cornbread muffins, but I add about 2 cups of grated zucchini to the batter."

Last of the yum

Just when I think the growing season is over another squash appears. I made three kinds of zucchini pickles but I'm the only one who likes pickles! Stuffed some mushroom caps withmashed acorn squash and bacon. Any other squash ideas out there?

the last hurrah of summer

This long weekend allowed me time for some things not normally in my routine. Time for paddling a new river with my husband, exploring where we've never been before.  Time to snuggle with my daughter as she woke up each morning.  Time to make the last of the zucchini into refrigerator pickles. Time to gather my craft supplies and take inventory, prepare for holiday crafting.I know we appreciate more the things that come less frequently into our lives, but I could certainly do with a few more…See More

found some freedom

I didn't drown during the "discover scuba" class, since I'm here to tell the story. My instructor called all the other instructors over to watch, because he's never in 40 years seen someone with such complete, total negative bouyancy. They checked my bouyancy vest because they were sure it was leaking, since I sank straight to the bottom every time.  Every time.  Every single time,. They inflated the vest until I looked like a puffer fish, just to keep me from scraping the bottom of the…See More

pain and pleasure

I'm indulging in one of my most-detested forms of self-flagellation: a yard sale. Why I do, I just don't know, but this time, in our new neighborhood, there was an unexptected bonus.  Several of my neighbors stopped to look, introduced themselves, and stayed to visit. I accomplished in an afternoon what I haven't managed to do in two months- get to know those living around me. I found a fellow gardener, a fellow jewelry-making hobbyist, a fellow outdoor enthusiast, and a new comeraderie and…See More
