"Such a good reflection, and something I often forget. I really like salty foods WAY more than sweet ones, but I do recognize that connection now that you mention it. It's been awhile since I've dug out The Hip Chick's Guide to…"

"Heather, I like to saute some garlic and oil, then add peppers and mushrooms, and then the egg beaters- gives them more weight and flavor. I also use egg beaters instead of egg whites even though I think they have some chemicals in them - :( - they…"

Day 8: Not Liking Retoxification So much

Still feeling pretty crappy. Damn you, lady time and possible cold brewing in my system. I will fight you both! So, I guess I should share something: after being a strict vegan for 2 years, I have decided to introduce some animal products back into my life. I will probably be dairy-free until the day I die (intense, intense lactose intolerance) and can't picture myself eating land animals, but I have decided to incorporate local, organic, cage-free eggs and some seafood back into my diet. Trying…See More

Day 5: Detoxing All The Way

Today, I did not get enough greens. I am lacking energy and feeling EXHAUSTED at 9:30PM, despite the fact that I've done a whole lot of nothing today. My plan was to have green juice or a green smoothie for dinner, but that didn't happen. Oh well.BreakfastCherry Coconut Smoothie in a bowl (kind of a repeat from last night, minus the cacao - and I ate it in a bowl to make it last longer!)Yogi Detox tea with steviaLunchGigantic romaine salad with cannelini beans, hemp seeds, grape tomatoes,…See More

Day 10: Strength is Wavering

Posted on January 13, 2010 at 9:19pm 0 Comments

How is it possible to feel great one day and horrible the next? Today I woke up and the thought of food was nauseating. OK, then, I took it as a sign to sit in silence and breathe. It's hard to meditate because I can't silence my mind, so breathing and relaxing works so much better. I've been trying to turn off all the background noise, especially since I'm the kind of person who likes to have the TV or music on in the background as I work. While I think this is because I have some sort of… Read more

Day 9: Getting better!

Posted on January 13, 2010 at 8:39am 1 Comment

(Wrote this last night, but forgot to post it.)

Today has been a whirlwind. First day of Spring semester, first day back on campus among the chaos, and the first day of trying to figure out the eating situation. I leave my house around 9AM and don't get home until 7PM. Sure, I can bring snacks and a packed lunch, but do you think I am that well prepared? (No, I'm not. Sometimes, but not today.)

On the days I am at school, I consider all the walking I do as my activity. It… Read more

Day 7: Detox Done!

Posted on January 10, 2010 at 8:22pm 0 Comments

I'm just gonna say it: today sucked. I woke up with a fierce hunger in my stomach - something that rarely happens. I'm a breakfast kind of person, but I never wake up STARVING. I wake up ready for a light but filling meal. Sometimes that's a gigantic smoothie, other times it's a veggie/tempeh scramble, and sometimes I just want a big bowl of warm grains (quinoa flakes are my new favorite). Today I didn't have a craving for anything particular, but I knew that it had to be WARM and light on my… Read more
