Detox Week 3

Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow I start week 3 of detox. It will be my final week before I transition into wider food choices. It has been going well so far. I've continued to avoid the excluded foods & I follow the detox recipes in the Whole Body Action Plan. Recently I made lemon-saffron millet pilaf which is much more satisfying than plain millet. The vegetables & herbs & lemon juice & even zested lemon enrich the dish with flavor & color & texture along with…

Herbs

Thank you, Amanda, for your feedback & your encouragement.

Herbs are fantastic! They are rich in antioxidants and they are anti-inflammatory. And they make food taste yummy with virtually no added calories. And fresh herbs are ideal.

I cook only for myself. After I buy herbs, I use a small amount in the recipes I follow, which means that the rest goes bad, & I end up wasting a lot. Herbs are worth the price but not when wasted. So I use a lot of dried herbs which are…

Two weeks in...

I'm trying my best to follow everything, but I find that you need time to do everything. Where does the time go? Being a teacher, I am constantly giving everything to everyone else, and never seem to give anything or save anything for me. which leads me to why i probably do not have the time to fully prepare meals, or figure out a way to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables I eat everyday. This week, I am going to focus on increasing the amount of green in my diet. Here's hopin!

Detox Continuing

Hi All,

I'm continuing my detox into the 2nd week. Today was a tough day. I had the energy smoothie for breakfast. I took a fitness class, then I went to the far-infra red sauna. I came home & found a leak under my sink. At that point I was starving! By the time I ate my quinoa salad with toasted almonds, it had been about 7 1/2 hours since I had the smoothie. I wanted to binge on a lot of food but I restrained myself. I'm O.K. now. I just made some blanched kale which I will eat…

Thank you, I'll definitly stay and read more each time I sign in.

The Last (Meat-Filled) Supper

This post is a few days late, but I had to share where I spent my last night as a meat-eater before my 40-day vegetarian experiment.

Fitness Test

My heart rate is 110 beats/minute.
My arm strength needs some help. I did 11 push-ups.
My core strength needs considerable help! Barey lasted 20 seconds in the plank position.
My flexibility is excellent, I was able to reach 6 inches past my toes.

So surprised that I loved the cleanse

Really. I read that I might be tired, instead, I was full of energy. And I was not feeling sluggish and like I needed to nap. Second, I stopped needing Prilosec for heartburn. I have been taking it for at least two years every day. Now in heading into the third week, I only needed it one day! And that was because I tried to add in a small grilled cheese sandwich with deli turkey and I think either the nitrates/preservatives of the turkey, or the bread, did it. I've been eating parmesan and a… Read more

Week Two, Maybe a do over? Lost 5.1 lbs, though.

Today should be my first day of week three, but I think I will stretch week two out a few more days. While I have done really well with so much of the food, and really enjoy it, I have not been very creative with eating many different colors of fruits and veggies. In the purples (nightshades?) I am allergic to eggplant so that's a bummer, I will try to add purple cabbage. Otherwiise it's been a lot of broccoli, spinach (I just can't bring myself to enjoy kale or swiss chard yet, but I am… Read more

Continuing Detox into Week 2

Thank you, Audris, for your informative response to my last blog. I will continue to detox into week 2 which starts tomorrow.

Today I made cucumber soup with mint (not chilled--some of these recipes are clearly not made for the dead of winter), stir-fried veggies and chicken with buckwheat noodles, & fennel & apple juice (yum).

Perhaps I will buy Dr. Junger's book. Has anyone found it helpful?

I have been walking at least 2 miles/day. I did yoga 2x & had a…

2 Weeks Detoxing?

Hi All,

Tomorrow is the last day of detox week 1. I want to continue making the detox recipes. Is there any reason to go off detox?

Today, as every Saturday, I went to my synagogue luncheon where all matter of "goodies" are served. I prepared myself by eating lunch at home first (detox striped bass & steamed rice dish). Although I was sufficiently full after the lunch I had at home, I partook of cantaloupe chunks & plain raw salad at the luncheon. Eating together with…

40 Days and 40 Nights

When I was in college, at the start of each Classical Styles Workshop class, my professor instructed us to focus our attention on her class only. "I know there's a show opening in 4 days, but it's time to concentrate on the task at hand." For the following 75 minutes, it was like pressing an imaginary pause button on everything but the classroom. Who was this woman kidding? There were term papers with impending due dates and late-night cramming after rehearsals and good heavens all that… Read more

Doing Fine

Hi Everyone,

I'm in day 4 of week 1. I transitioned sucessfuly over the past 3 days, other than having some cacao bits (chocolate not permitted). Today I made the mango smoothie. It calls for 1/4 avocado & 1/2 c. mango for 2 servings. So what do you do with the leftover avocado & mango? I can't bear to waste good food. So I'll have 6 servings of mango smoothie over 3 days (even though a whole mango & avocado should make 8). I mention all this because I have to be careful…
