Fresh Herbs

I love gardening and growing my own food and that includes fresh herbs. In New England, perennial herbs are starting to pop up everywhere. In addition to the perennials around my yard, I also grow all the staples such as flat leaf parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme, basil, mint, dill etc. Most recently I’ve branched off and started growing different varieties. This year some of the new herbs I’ve included are chocolate mint, orange mint, cinnamon basil, lemon basil, lime basil, spicy basil,…

Loving My "Enemies"

Most people I know, when they think about their “enemies,” do not talk about loving them. What if we did though? What if we put our “enemies” on the top of our prayer list and blessed them? Why is it that every faith tradition in the world teaches one to love their “enemies”? Is there even an “enemy?” Iyanla Vanzant once wrote about being grateful for those who got on your last nerve. I could not agree more. I have learned so much from those I had once considered my “enemies.”…

We went to the Sandy Springs Farmers Market on Saturday to pick up some tasty produce and get a cup of coffee after the boot camp. Neil decided he needed a little something to eat, so he settled upon a spinach artichoke hand pie from Bella's Best Organic Gourmet Goodies.…

Boot Camp!

This morning, I had the opportunity to teach a boot camp-style fitness class at a gym nearby. The regular instructor is out of town today, so it was a good time to learn the ropes. There were about 10 people in the class, mostly women. They were a fit group of individuals, and it's a good thing. The workout I gave them was designed by the gym owner.

Workout

1-mile run

100 each

air squats

push-ups

sit-ups

tuck jumps

box jumps

Mother or sMother

It is the greatest blessing of all to be a mother.

It blows my mind that my body actually was able to create, and help to develop another person! I mean, how amazingly cool is it to give life to another human being?

I loved being pregnant. Let me clarify... once the morning sickness was gone- I loved it! When I first felt each of my babies move- that little butterfly wing feeling…

A Touch of Grey

When you buy a resale home some call it ‘previously loved’, I think it should be termed “previously decorated’. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. The resale home that we recently bought is a combination of the two.

R E S P E C T Find out What It Means to Me

For the past few days, well maybe longer, I have been thinking about the whole notion of respect. I found myself remembering the chorus from the old Aretha Franklin song RESPECT. However, when I read the lyrics to her song, I realized that while respect might have meant one thing to her, at least from the lyrics, it meant something completely different to me. As her song says, find out what it means to me. For me, respect is an expression of love. It is about love for myself and love for…

Wardrobe Choices

Today is my TRX training course. I'm pretty excited, but I'm nervous, too. It's a full-day workshop and we'll be into the "Tell, Show, Do" method of learning, full-force. I'm still sore from the kickboxing class on Tuesday (!) and I'm not 100% sure on my choice of outfit.

And why does my choice of outfit matter? It is Atlanta, and looks seem to matter a good bit here, still. I know that once I'm in class it won't matter, but it does a little bit before class. The class is…

Day of Stretching

Tomorrow is my TRX training class (!), so I know I need to take it easy today in terms of physical activity. I've done two workouts a day for most of the month, and I think tomorrow's going to be a long workout spread out over eight hours. For those reasons, today I will stretch.

Not just stretching in the traditional sense; I plan to walk and do a tiny bit of running to stretch myself mentally. I've been a little bit afraid of getting back into running for fear of injuring…

Tips On How To Improve Your Memory

Growing old often makes us realize that we are also getting old in our bodies and minds, and frequently we reinforce the idea by cracking jokes or giving age as the reason for why we can not do things any longer. Case in point is our memory, and who hasn't had the occasional slip up where somebody's name doesn't come to mind or you are unable to remember where you put your eyeglasses. At that point, we ordinarily chalk it up to age and ,as a result, we end up being lackadaisical instead of…
