Monday, May 31: Eat a Grilled Vegetable

It's Memorial Day: Do you know where your vegetables are? Hopefully they're on a grill somewhere, on their way to char-grilled perfection. Today's challenge: Eat a grilled veggie.

Give the oven and the microwave a rest today. Sure, you can eat your veggies boiled, raw, or steamed, but few vegetables are as delicious -- and as fun! -- as those prepared over an outdoor grill. Top your burger with grilled peppers and… Read more

Let's Raise a Glass

So, here's a toast to everyone who is walking through life, certain that everyone else must know what they're doing and where they're going, but who somehow hasn't received the life rules

memo yet. And for those of you who have that memo, please share! To everyone

who thought they knew what their life was going to look like, what their

occupation was, how they wanted to show up in the world and then lie in bed

thinking, "what…

Post-Grad Blues

Technically, I've been a college graduate with a big, fat, fancy B.F.A.

in Writing, Literature, and Publishing for nearly five months. Between

December 23 and January 1, I completed my senior thesis and three final

term papers/finals in Boston, then celebrated Christmas with my family

in New York. The week before New Years, I had to settle a legal dispute

with my roommate, her mother, and the apartment management company

(which concluded with me being shorted… Read more

First step of my plan.

It's almost as if God wants to help me kick start a new 'me'. I've had opportunities in the past too, but I never dared to go out of my comfort zone.

But I'm just going to do it this time and experience for once instead of just speculating.

My cousin is coming back home from hostel tonight. She has exams next month so she'll be studying. And I've a great chance to go live with my Aunt and her for a week or so! My mum will be all for it, we had talked about it…

Hello my fellows on Whole Living! :)

Hello,

I've joined Whole Living all the way from India. I'm from a well educated doctors family, living a cosmopolitan live (with an Indian twist, of course!)

Like an average 20 something young person I'm going through a Quarter Life Crisis. The career I've no inherent interest in is on the top of my woe-list. Then comes the want for freedom from over protective Indian parents. They limit the growth of their own kids, hinder their capability to take independent…

Memorial Day Weekend: What Helps You Escape?

I don't know about everyone else, but I am sooo looking forward to a long weekend! After a few long, hard weeks at work, I can really use the time off and a break from the city.

I'm continuing a tradition my friends and I started about five years ago, of going camping (or should I say "glamping," i.e. glam-camping) in the Catskills region of New York. We fill up the car with meat, veggies, beer, sleeping bags, and a couple of pet dogs,… Read more

Gowanus Strawberries

They have finally arrived! Strawberries! Although there is not enough to make a farm stand with them here in Brooklyn, they are beautiful and sweet this year. Last year's crop was a bit water-logged, and I'm hoping that tonight's promised storm will not wipe out this season's promise. Here's more, I hope you will give it a glance… Read more

Find Balance with 10 Healthy Living Tips for this Month

So you had all those great post Christmas ideas to get fit, increase your health, to eat well and look after yourself more. Yet not even a 6 months later and the sudden over indulgent surge of guilt has subsided into a busy routine of normality. It’s tough to find time for the gym this week, after all you’re so busy with everything else, and the guilt of Christmas is but a distant memory.

The average life only has a little over 600,000 hours, not much time really in the grand scheme… Read more

Weekly Assignment: Ride a Bike

May 23 -- This week's assignment: Ride a Bike. Fresh air, exercise, extra cash in your pocket -- you know the benefits of swapping your car for a bike every once in a while. But as the country gets more cycle-friendly, your trusty two-wheeler could become your default mode of transportation.

This week, forget all of your excuses -- "I'll get sweaty," "I have too much stuff to carry," "I don't have the right gear," -- and rediscover the… Read more

Women Without Helmets

Despite the very tiny footnote on page 103 I want to voice my objection to the portrayal of women not wearing bike helmets, in "Wheel Life," in the June 2010 issue. The perception that helmets are unattractive, cause bad hair, or are not cool enough to be photographed in is the primary reason so many people, especially women, do not wear them. If Whole Living is not… Read more

You Guys Rock!

I felt the need to give you guys a nice shout out since Tonic.com named us (yes, that's right, including you!) one of it's "good" communities. Check out the full article here. Why is being a "good" community so important you ask?

Weekly Assignment: Melt Stress with DailyYoga Poses

May 16 -- This week's assignment: Melt Stress with Daily Yoga. Monday is a mind-swirling blur. Tuesday sees a spike in stress levels, and Wednesday requires a Herculean effort just to get out the door. With a schedule as packed as yours, how can you create some bona fide breathing room?

The answer lies in slow, restorative yoga poses that you can do in just 5 to 10 minutes a day. "When you… Read more

Only Tea for Me

About two years ago, I "quit" coffee. To get me through all-nighter term papers, I would drink cup after cup of the drip stuff. For no particular reason, I switched to tea. I became a girl obsessed, a tea aficionada. What kind of leaves, where they're grown, what wonderful flowers blend with which teas, what time of day, when to add milk, honey, or lemon. I noticed that the switch made me feel better. I couldn't have explained it at the time, but coffee had a dull and dirty affect on my body.… Read more

Spring & Summer Style

I've been wearing the same clothes since college and I'm more than ready for a spruce. While I certainly lack cash to be tossing around on a fresh closet, I have a few ideas about what I'm looking for. And yet, I can hardly find any of it! If anyone has suggestions on where to find my affordable dream pieces, let me know!

The February Elle UK (with Natalie Portman on the cover) was touting beautiful blushes and nudes for spring, yet I can't seem to find it any in shops.…

Or the dentist? If your medical records are overdue, schedule an appointment this week. (Monday is National Women's Checkup Day.)
