Normally I'm able to power through what I like to call "the two-o-clock grogs". That blasted hour that's too far from lunch but too far from dinner (and too far from my afternoon run) that somehow manages to stretch on for daaaaaaaaaaaaaays.
My general strategy is to get up form the desk, take a walk around the block or maybe update my twitter, just find some sort of brief distraction. This usually does the trick.
Somehow the detox this time around has turned ye olde hour of…

Hello WL Fam!
I'm so happy that I "stmbled" across this magazine! I've been working on eating healthy for years...However, I've done some crazy things...that I might share one day. However, NOW, I'm ready to do it the right way...I will not go low-carb, fad diet...blah blah blah, anymore! I'm on the road to total health! I want to be medicine free...I want to eat a diet that my Great, Great, Great Grandmother would recognize. I have cut out all of the fake stuff! Now, it's all…

One woman's pleasure is another woman's pain! My pleasures run to extended hikes in high places, pushing myself physically. But spending all afternoon in the hammock reading a book is in the top 5 also.
Often, great pleasures tend to egocentric activities, and stolen time. Is it the rarity that make them a great pleasure? Or is it universal appeal?

Hmm, does that mean with real food or a real break or at lunch time? When I sat at my desk at my 'real' job, lunch was taking a break to walk around the city lake. When I was on the road for my job, lunch break was something everyone else took that I had to work around.
Now lunch is work! Because it's summer, my daughter is home, my husband, who is a teacher, is home, and they expect a real meal! Personally, I'd be happy with a smoothie and call it good, but oh no! They want…

In my on-going quest to live better, I've decided to eat more local, whole foods and cut many processed foods out of my diet. That said, over the past week I've stopped at a local farm stand for fresh zucchini, corn and blueberries and made homemade granola and trail mix to replace my go-to granola bar. Even though it's only been a few days (and actual, physical benefits I'm sure have yet to take place), I… Read more

There's a special feeling that comes with waking up on the "first day" of something new. The first day of vacation, the first day of school, the first day of a new job.
Today was the first day of my detox, a modified version of popular gluten/dairy/sugar free detox and the whole body action plan.
I woke up excited to kick-off my first day. Having done this detox before I knew it would leave me feeling great as long as I stuck to the plan. And adding in the whole body plan…

I've let myself off the challenges hook the last three days because I was helping my daughter move. I think carrying tons (literally!!) of boxes counts for something!! I was sore in places I didn't know still had any muscles. So when I saw the push up challenge, I was less than excited... wimp!

My very first E-mail handle (big up, AOL) was NYCGirl217. I was 16 years old and obsessed with what us denizens call "the city" (thanks for stealing our flavor, MTV. Oh, and, incidentally, the 217 is my name spelled numerically -- and backwards). Both of my parents grew up in Brooklyn (pops Williamsburg, mum Greenpoint), but followed protocol and bought a house in the suburbs a few years after marrying. They chose a neighborhood right on the border of south shore Queens because of it's…

Or is it just me?I used to take a class at my gym called "Chisel" and there were push-ups involved. And there was sweat and whimpering and quietly dropping into the girly knees-down push-up position and then more struggling and shaking of the biceps. It felt like punishment! But.BUT. Nothing makes you feel more badass, more powerful, more… Read more

Day 1 of detox- made a mango smoothie for breakfast, almond chicken for lunch and cucumber mint soup for dinner. I began at 6:30 am and it only look me until 11am to make a cup of coffee. Minus the "no caffeine" I think I'll be fine- hopefully!! It is going to be a long 4 days but it will pay off in the end!

Hello there,
I just started the 28 Whole Body Action Plan on Monday July 26th (today) and was hoping someone could direct me where to record the results (from the fitness assessment) in your online journal so you can track your progress. Thanks in advance, Karyn

So I have a problem that from what I can tell most obese people don't tend to have. Until very recently I have never had body image issues. I have had "obese" friends who not only always covered themselves but were super shy, except in our circle of friends. I have not been shy a day in my life and have always felt comfortable in my skin. I never felt the desire to lose weight or tone. I knew I wasn't as skinny as some of my friends but I never even thought of myself as fat, which I am. I know…
