Day 9

Food Diary - well, it was an offsite strategic planning day. I consumed I don't know HOW many coffee's with cream! BUT, for breakfast I had 2 cups of fruit. Lunch was whole grain bread, turkey, and tomato, coleslaw, and white bean chicken chili...I really lost it with dinner...one dirty martini, and appetizers ;)

Spinach dip, brioche, potstickers

Since I've been home, I've been slurping the water, and I think I'll have a cucumber mint soup as my… Read more

Reflecting pool

Okay, after my rant about Elizabeth What's-her-name having to go to Bali to find herself (eat, love, pray) I feel sort of silly and a little guilty talking about my reflections. I have a special place to reflect. I realize that this post should be talking about reflecting on this year, and I'm getting to that. The place is part of what happened this year.

This year has been the best of times and the worst of times. Worst because I needed to quit my job, for health and…

Day 8

Ah, to journal, to journal. Journalling is definitely my secret success recipe, but it is also the place I fall down the easiest! I will try once again - at least for this 28 day challenge :)

Food

Breakfast:

I woke up hungry, a little later than I intended, but happy. I had a great cup of coffee with french vanilla creamer - HOW I missed that during detox! I was a little suprised to find that the breakfast of choice…

ReClaiming Your Self-Worth

How comfortable are you with your self-worth? Self-worth is important to the ultimate happiness you feel in your life because it is deeply tied into your ability to attain your desires.

In order to move forward with your desires, you need perseverance. So why do we sometimes give up so easily? Many of us feel that there are not enough hours in the day to pursue our dreams or we live in an environment that seems so far away from what we…

Flush where?

Last year when my daughter and I visited the Cayman Islands, we were shocked to find that all sewage from hotels and rsidences went straight into the ocean. When I expressed my disgust- someone said- "we're on an island! Where's it supposed to go?"

Well, I don'tknow- sewage treatment plant maybe? Am I the only one who sees a problem with this and thinks it could be fixed?

Take a hike

Exploring hiking trails can be a spiritual, inspirational, relaxing, or healing experience. For me, it’s just plain fun! Recently someone asked me why I hike, and I was dumbstruck for a moment. It’s so much a part of me, and what I do, that I really had to stop to consider a response. It was as if someone had asked “why do you…

Reading aloud

While teaching in English in Taiwan, I began to read aloud to myself at night just to hear my native tongue. Then I discovered how fun it was to read with the appropriate accent of the characters( i.e. Proust with a french accent.) The most brilliant that the characters ever came alive for me was when I read Agee's "A Death in the Family" with a 1930's TN. accent. I even went so far as to research the proper accent for that era online. The funny thing is though, that my husband accuses me of… Read more

Just Because Day

Ah, just because day. I love that! It should be a national holiday - most certainly. Today, I cleaned my ceiling fan blades - JUST BECAUSE! Seriously, I'm not a total FANatic (sorry, couldn't stop the pun), but it felt SO GOOD to get out the ladder, a damp microfiber clothe, and CLEAN!

Do you think it's because I'm finishing Day 2 of DETOX? For the record, DAY 2 is h a r d. Perhaps because I'm just HUNGRY AND TIRED, perhaps because it's Friday, and unlike many in this…

Just because

Just because, I will stop what I am doing and have a cup of coffee with my husband this morning. Just because, I will eat lunch with my daughter at school. Just because, I will give the neighbor's cat a treat. Just because I can do these things and it makes someone smile. Just because it's the unexpected extras that bring greater joy than fulfilling my obligations. Just because I am alive and well and blessed, I will pass it one.

Submerged

Paulo Coelho said "You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it." Lately I have been feeling a bit submerged, When you are young you are fearless. You never spend time wondering if you should or should not do something, you just act. If a seven year old want to climb a tree they never consider the chances of falling they just take the first step and climb. At 22 years old I find myself fearful. I am worried about the affect of all actions and how they will potentially… Read more

DeTox Week

So I was hoping to get the daily emails for the Mind+Body 28 Day Challenge, but they aren't going through. Since my fridge is stocked with kale, mangoes, chard, and beets, I thought I'd forge forward. I'm not following perfectly, but I'm not failing miserably either!

I did sneak in one fitness test - the endurance stair test and got a pulse rate of 88 - that's GOOD! I'm so excited.

pet a pup

In spite of our best efforts to discourage such behavior, the neighbor's dog has adopted us. He goes home to sleep at night, then each morning trots across town to hang out in our yard all day. I think it's because there is more traffic to bark at from our yard than his. And maybe better table scraps... There could be worse…
