A new day, a new life.

After years of fighting first cancer and then a brown recluse spider bite....After my husband had an affair and my Best friend of 33 years moved away...I am learning the beautiful lesson of awakening every day to a new life! I took my pain and wrote a story that won 25th in a National Writers Digest competition. There were 8,500 entries so I am delighted to be in print with some of the best! I also signed a recording contract at the age of 55! (Unheard of!) Today I was in a studio with a 19… Read more

I Mean Really.... Who Cares?

What do you care about? I am working on finding out what I care about - What is most important to me -Who I care about.... AND what it means to/about me if I don't care about You, current events, or Myself

What does 'caring' even really mean?…

Can't sleep, need to make some decisions...

So I signed up for this a couple of weeks ago. Of course the first email arrived 2 days into my vacation in Falmouth, so I said I would wait and start a week late, after I got home. That would require my detox to have started today, but a mini battenberg, some maple roasted nuts, eggs benedict, 2 bordertown burgers and most of a tub of haagen dazs has safely put paid to that idea. Even seeing my reflection in the window yesterday at bellydancing, which was a LOT bigger than I seemed to think,… Read more

So long summer

The calendar says summer is officially over. My daughter said it was officially over when she returned to school. I say it's officially over when I need a sweatshirt in the mornings.

But I need more closure than that, something more concrete, I need...frost on the pumpkins. Leaves turning orange. The 7-11 next door to offer pumpkin cappucino.

This coming and going, cool then warm, dry leaves, not…

Life After Fibromyalgia

I try to jump for joy at least once a day. Literally - I get on my mini trampoline and jump to some happy music to loosen my muscles and get my lymphatic system pumping. Today I paused for a moment to think about when I first started this practice, and why.

About five years ago I was smack dab in the middle of a six-year "bout" of fibromyalgia. I could barely sit, walk or sleep at the time and someone suggested I try a trampoline. It turned out to be a miracle…

For what shall I be grateful

For what shall I be grateful today? For a pre-teen who always wakes up with a smile, rather than in teenage ire? In gratitude for a happy, healthy child, the ritual is a hug to start the day.

Shall I be grateful for a husband who realizes how hard it is for a morning glory to live with a night owl, and tries hard not disturb my sleep? In gratitude for consideration, the ritual is bringing his coffee to him in the…

My neighbor has a cat

And a daughter with a weird boyfriend, and she doesn't drive (the neighbor, not the cat or the daughter). She gets up early and she smokes a lot. She feeds all the strays in the neighborhood. Sounds like I know her, right? WRONG. We moved in two months ago and my daughter has asked almost daily when are we going to meet the neighbor? Do you know her name? Why not?

I am guilty of laziness, shyness, worse, maybe even apathy. I am going to…

brand me

Dudes, this post by Maggie on uncovering your personal brand is so well-timed for me. Well, if it had been published any time within the past two years it would have been well-timed. As I've started my career in one field and grown my hobbies and personal interests in another, I've gotten to wondering about how I can blend those two areas of my life better.… Read more

One Little One

It only takes one little moment, one little intention to shift your day into gear or seriously out of whack. What do you do when life throws you a curve ball? How do you stay in the flow of all that is good? Recently I have had the best intentions yet was finding myself exactly where I did not desire to be. The simple action that finally made the big shift... truly letting go of what I could not control. I let it go vs.continuing to fight against the current. I first breathed deeply, allowing… Read more

one lil apple

Okay, so I can manage one apple, right? A caramel covered one from the state fair? Oh. Maybe not. Sets a bad example for the child with the newly acquired braces, looking up at me with big, brown, sad eyes.

Oh! How about sliced into a buttery pastry shell, and drizzled with cream cheese icing? No. Maybe not. The spouse who's on a diet is looking at me with squinty, reproachful eyes.

Alright! A fresh from…

Tea Meditation

Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves – slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. ~Thich Naht Hahn

I really enjoyed reading Christine's recent post on Tea & Honey Bridal Shower Favors and thought I would share how I use tea making and drinking as a form of meditation. When you view meditation as "paying attention to…

up and at 'em!

Much as I'd like to sleep in on a Saturday, I know that getting up and around and integrating activity into our day will make for healthier and happier members of our family. Getting away from football on TV, off the computer, and away from the snacks will lead to bonding among family members, increased health, and most likely, a better outllok on life in general.

Vegetarian longings

My two college age daughters have both gone through attempts at eating vegetarian. To make this work, they will have to give up the following:

  1. Some of their time, and actually cook or prepare something, instead of going through the drive-thru.
  2. Their pickiness. Both of them have issues with food textures.
  3. Their love of convenience and having someone clean up after…
