I am still getting used to eating better and taking the time to exercise so to add to my million reasons not to follow through I slip and fall causing a bruised hip and seriously bruised pride. Had to fall in public...I hate rain right now. Since the powers that be have reminded me that I am not 20 any more and don't bounce back quite so quickly I realize just how important this challenge is for me. I need to be healthy. I wont let this be a reason to stop but I think I may have to cut back on… Read more

on the outside of my right hip and the groin of my left hip have been giving me so much trouble that I was seriously thinking I couldn't dance anymore...Tragedy for me! I gave up the little bit of coffee that I mix with my heaping teaspoons of Teccino and at the end of the detox week "no more aches"! To prove it I had a bit of coffee/teccino yesterday and my right hip started acting up again....Soooo I figured out that coffee doesn't work. I'm sad, but so happy I found out what is wrong. I… Read more

Oh whoa is me. My body may really be realizing its 42 suddenly. In the middle of Dec. after months of being bashed over the head by the media regarding the Swine Flu shot I gave in and received one. As far as I know, and they say you would know, I have never had the flu. I have never had any other major illness's except I did get Mono in the 7th grade. Prior to that I never even had measles or mumps or even Chicken Pox although I did finally get Chicken Pox at about 21. How embarrassing that… Read more

I went straight from pure and whole the first week and feeling that it would last forever, to succumbing to sweets, pastries, and sugar in a really bad way, and feeling quite rotten. What happened? It was as though proving that I could do it, gave me permission to "relapse." The little red me on one shoulder laughing at the little white me on my other shoulder, "So there, relax now, you'll have your chance again!" I am generally good about my health habits, underneath somewhere there is a… Read more

When we started detox week, all I could think about was when I was going to taste coffee again. I sipped my green tea resentfully--I'd never gotten past the taste it left in my mouth of sweaty socks. After returning to solid meals and complex carbs, however, I decided to keep going with the low-caffeine plan (can't say the same for my wine consumption, which went right back up on weekends). And you know what? Green tea isn't half bad. I sampled 4 or 5 different brands, and especially love the… Read more

Life is messy. I say that at least once a week to myself and anyone foolish enough to listen. I stand by my profound pronouncement, life is messy and unpredictable. My feelings, and a bit of pride were bruised today. The circumstances hardly matter, as they are neither unique nor very interesting.
Messy pronouncement being made, let me share that I did not immediately fall into a vat of ice cream or chocolate or anything food related. I did not choose to ruin my entire day nor wallow… Read more

Although I think I’ve said every week that I’m going to plan out all my meals in advance, I’ve only actually done it for the first time yesterday! This was in part because for the first time in my refrigerator’s history, it’s so full of vegetables that I don’t have space for anything else. Definitely got a little too enthusiastic on my last shopping trip, and I still have some bok choy withering away from Week 1. I highly suspect that on Friday, everything gets juiced.
But planning… Read more

I was just reading Leah Gross's post about her goals and thought it was a fantastic idea! So here I go!
My first goal for this week is to work out 5 times - 2 days of just weight training, two days of just cardio work. I've always had a lot of muscle (too much in my opinion..), so I like to focus on cardio a little more. The final day, I'd like to spend just doing yoga, which I love so much...but I don't love the cost of the classes! I know I could do it at home, but I find it very… Read more

I had a good week 2 and am so excited about this program because I feel better and feel like I am finally taking the steps to do something good for me. I am exercising daily and really loved the breathing exercises because now when I get stressed or overwelmed I just tell myself to breathe and take a minute timeout. I am exercising daily and feel so much more confident in my ability to balance my meals and my life. I was never much of a breakfast person, but am starting to enjoy smoothies or… Read more

Today I started sooo good with the glass of water with lemon. At breakfast I had a juice of beet, orange and nopal. For lunch I had a salad with grilled chicken, cheese, tomato and a boiled egg only the white with a glass of hibiscus water. I went to a friend's house for dinner and she served salad which I had half plate and then chicken, spaguetti and smashed potatoes and about 6 glasses of lipton tea, I was beyond full. But it made me happy I finally worked out I jogged for 3 min nonstop with… Read more

Monday's are a little difficult for me just because it's Monday. Today is a long day for me. I go to work and then go to dance class and don't get home until 10:00 p.m. I felt pretty good all day, and had energy to dance. When I got home, I noticed that I needed a hearty late snack. Maybe it's because of the extra energy I used up at dance class. Not sure.
Thank you for sharing this program with us. It is really helping me pay attention to my body, be mindful of what I eat, focus on… Read more

Yep. It was me.
I'm not quite sure how it happened. Monday I was still doing great. I decided to extend the detox a couple more days (I felt insanely guilty for each all those cookies). I did my yoga video Monday night and I felt wonderful. I was still on a roll on Tuesday, but I skipped my upper body workout.
Fast forward to today. I haven't done any exercise since last Monday. A whole week! I've also indulged in some of my no-no foods: beer, chocolate and cheese. In… Read more

At least I had a healthy snack at the ready when I was ATTACKED by a craving at about 3:00 pm. Instead of the chocolate and latte that I would have had previously, I had a handful of salted, roasted pepitas. On the list. 1/4 cup.
And then I had another handful. And another. And another.
A new voice questioned me at that point : was I still hungry? and: what is triggering this? I couldn't identify any stressors, other than a stiff neck and shoulder tension.... oh the muscle… Read more

By now, you have probably noticed that I am pretty hard on myself, I am inclined to apologize, and I also tend to fall a bit short of goals. I was talking to my sister the other night, and she remarked on the fact that so many of us focus on what we didn't do that we forget to notice what we did do that was good. I've been thinking about this a lot for the last few days, and so I've sort of had a list running through my mind that pops up out of nowhere of things that I did and did not do in the… Read more

Somehow I was expecting that today, day 1 of my detox, was going to be horrendously difficult. It wasn't...
I got up, had a mango smoothie for breakfast, drank lots of chamomile tea, cleaned the bathroom, went out to see a movie, ate some raw nuts in the cinema, drank more chamomile tea, came home, ate some lunch (chilli made with millet, black beans and yellow pepper), went out to see an exhibition at the Boston ICA, drank more chamomile tea, had some baby carrots and (homemade)… Read more

I am 5'4" and weigh about 130lbs. @ age 24. I am pretty active, but I have been more active in previous years so I feel a bit like I am lagging.
Today is my first day of the whole 10wk process. So far, things have been OK. I know the hardest thing for me will be cutting out some sugar....I have some sort of candy or dessert almost every day. Saying this sounds completely ridiculous, how can I actually eat dessert EVERY single day? It's just always around and I have a pretty fast… Read more

We’re halfway there! I feel good about my progress so far, but Week 3 has several new challenges.
^ My normal mealtime companions ^
First of all, sitting at a table to eat, focusing only on the food. Growing up, my family was one that ate every breakfast and dinner together, and lunch on the weekends. (We lived in the country with animals and lots of chores, so we were always up early together.) Any time I got a meal by myself… Read more

Today I had to rush to school so I had nothing to eat until 6 pm I was so hungry the first thing I had was a hamburguer with fries. I didn't feel as guilty because my objective was to skip dinner instead drink several cups of green tea. But almost before going to bed around 3 am I just had to eat, so I failed on the third cup and had a sandwich with ham, panela cheese, lettuce, avocado, tomato and onion with jalapeños and hibiscus juice. I felt terrible for not working out I can't believe it… Read more
