NEED DAYS 1-14 OF NEWSLETTER

I would greatly appreciate help in obtaining days 1-14 of the Action Plan Newsletter. I joined about midway through the plan and am therefore missing the first half of the program. My email is patsy2lea@gmail.com. Thank you. Patsy Lea

Hmmm, I'm curious

Hello Everyone!

My name is Ashley, obviously, and I'm a bit new to all of this. For starters I feel I'm sort of the child in the group because I'm still only a teenager. I started reading body+soul last year because I got very sick and almost died, I got mono and was misdiagnosed and told to go on with my normal schedual. Well, being the busy little bumble bee that I am that was eight afterschool clubs, cheerleading, volenteer work, advanced classes, and an addition being put onto my house… Read more

Discovering, Rediscovering, and Renegotiating

Putting this list together was very enjoyable, taking stock of all that went well these past few weeks.

{My very first meal on the Action Plan! Like Leah, I love the mango smoothie.}

Definitely carrying forward:

Detox! It was definitely a knock-you-down, grit-your-teeth challenge some days, particularly early on during coffee… Read more

The Wellness Nest

Dear all,

As an experienced counsellor, career counsellor, life coach and social worker, I have decided to start a blog dedicated to developing our mental health and wellness a day at a time.

Throughout my career I have been fortunate enough to learn from many respected leaders in the psychotherapy community and within this time I have also developed my own strategies and activities for contributing to better mental health and anxiety management.

I invite anyone… Read more

Let me count the ways I love calories

I made a decision today. After weeks making small changes and still making unhealthy food choices I'm going to start counting calories again. I was doing ok with everything, incorporating meditation into my routine a few days a week, working out 3-4 times a week, eating more fruits and vegetables, reducing my processed food intake, even losing a few pounds. But then over the weekend my boyfriend and I celebrated the football game with a ridiculous amount of food. And I've been going out and… Read more

A happy ending to my trial

I finally solved all those problems and got the keys to my new apartment! I'll be moving in this week (hopefully) and I'll be able to put my life back on track. : )

Exercises

For me one of the hardest things to do
is exercise.
I am starting the fourth week and I hope
I can make a habit of doing a rutine of
exercises.
Do you have some tips for me?

Exercising again

It felt so great to get back to the gym last night. I usually try to get to the gym a few times a week.. and my new goal is to either run/ski/walk or at least do something on the days I don't make it to the gym.... just to keep things going.

So there I was last night... getting in lots of cardio and some weights and stretching. Today I will go for a jog. We've had a ton of rain... all the snow is gone so I am left with mush and ice... but I am going to get out soon....wish me… Read more

Blue Tuesday

I am a bit blue today. I struggled with my yoga practice this morning. It's really interesting that overall I feel significantly better and my chronic pain is greatly improved, but I still struggle. My energy level is still low and I am still tired. It's improving by millimeters but at times this healing is tedious and wearing on my spirit.

I am eating well but am still heavy. I know that as my body heals and this excess weight decides to finally come off that will really help. I'm trying… Read more

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

“Systemic lupus is the most common form of lupus, and is what most people mean when they refer to “lupus.” Systemic lupus can be mild or severe.

Some of the more serious complications involving major organ systems are:inflammation of the kidneys (lupus nephritis), which can affect the body’s ability to filter waste from the blood and can be so damaging that dialysis or kidney transplant may be needed.

An increase in blood pressure… Read more

Tired

Wow. I forget how a ten hour shift can wipe a person out. At least I have a job that I really love. And since the theme for now is about graditude I can safely say I am grateful that I have my job. Oh, there are days that I wonder if it really is all worth it but then one of the old airplanes rumbles to life and takes off to fight a fire. Those are the moments that make it all seem right.

For now...mixed feelings of frustration, tiredness, and thankfullness. On that note, to bed.

A test for my gratitude

I'm moving (something that is almost always a synonym for stress) and today was the day the real estate agent promised me the contract would be ready for me to sign. I left work during my lunch break and headed to the real estate place confident I would get the keys to my new apartment today, so I could start moving in and buying the stuff I need. After all, I had been there last week and pointed out what needed to be corrected, so the contract sure would be ready today.

Well, only… Read more

Goodbye, Candy. It's Been Nice Knowing You.

Week 4! I almost can’t believe it. It hardly seems like we’ve been doing the Challenge for three weeks already!

The hardest thing for me by far has been conquering my cravings – sugar is a powerful drug, my friends. But I have found it immensely helpful to keep a food journal and to reflect each day on my… Read more

Day 21

I can't believe its been 3 weeks already! Fhew, they flew by!

Last night, I had something unthinkable to me now - beef tenderloin fried in oil, white potatoes and some white (gasp!) bread...It all tasted pretty good going down, but within an hour - my stomach felt AWFUL! It's amazing how 3 weeks can change you! I truly felt so sick! I will definitely steer clear of beef, potatoes + white bread - there's nothing to them and they don't taste that good any ways.

Today, I felt… Read more

Green tea taste test!

So have you gotten into the green tea thing since the Action Plan? If not, never too late to try it out. There are so many kinds of green tea, and a type and flavor for every person, whether you like straight-up, smoky, fruity, or clean-tasting greens.

Recently on the daily call-in radio show I host each morning at 10a E on the Martha channel (sirius 112 / XM 157), I did a green tea taste test--and I thought you might like to learn a little more about those teas, as well as the… Read more

Happy

I am happy I started the Action Plan. As I said in the beginning I am not a Blogger(actually my weakest area in this) but I didn't feel alone in going thru this process. I learned a lot and started a lot and for the first time I honestly believe that taking the steps I can finish. I am truly excited as I widen my perspective on being healthy with my love for food. I don't dred the idea of working out since I do it as an activity/hobby that I can do with the feet of snow outside. I have already… Read more

"Leg Exercise"

Hi, I am 64 years old and always a good "Light" Exercise Program which I followed on a daily basis up until

five years ago when I started having "Severe Knee Problems". Last summer, I had a "Total Knee Replacement"

on Left Leg and now in Spring I must get the Right Knee done. I still perform Upper Body Exercise - and still

some Knee Exercise to keep strengthning the Left Knee but Right Knee is very Painful at this time.

How can I keep a good exercise program when working… Read more

Last day of vacation...

My vacation is officially over. I go back to work tomorrow. Insert a sigh.

I don't know about this whole jet lag thing. It is kicking my butt this direction. I got a bit of a sinus infection while travelling and apparently the 24 hours of travel to get home didn't do me any good. I really haven't been interested in food since we got home. I have to eat to stave off wicked headaches but my stomach hasn't thought anything sounded good. Once I finally convince myself to eat things taste… Read more

Taking the Express to Inner Calm: Subway Meditation?

I have never liked to meditate. In college, I spent 6 months in a Buddhist monastery in Northern India, and though we were forced to all participate in a daily meditation practice, I typically spent that time mentally designing elaborate outfits that I planned to take to the tailor on the corner (literally, a guy who sat on a bench in front of a sewing machine on the side of a dusty road). I could no more center my attention on my breath than I could center my dozing, lolling head over my… Read more

ice cream = success

Avoiding the whole enchilada is always challenging for me. Yesterday I had a scoop of chocolate and vanilla and let it stop there, ice cream in moderation, yes!

Trying to do an hour of yoga everyday was making it harder for me to enjoy my time on the mat, and easier to come up with excuses for why I wasn't doing it. Aiming for every other day is so much more realistic and enjoyable!

Mixing in winter walks when I can does soooo much for the way I think about me and my needs, can never… Read more
