Week Two- day one ....could have been better

Well I did not have much success today. I had total cinnamon sugar cereal for breakfast, potato soup with bread for lunch, a banana and granola bar for snack, and pasta with mushrooms and deer meat sauce. I was hoping to stick more to the detox list and just introduce things slowly, but life has it's way of intruding. I am feeling full and bloated after dinner, it's probably the two slices of oat bread with garlic, butter, and vegan cheese, that is pushing my limits. I shouldn't eat this late,… Read more

Sister, sister.....

Well, detox day one is behind me now (since I'm behind the group), and all I can say is thank you, sister! We checked in via text periodically throughout the day and even helped fine-tune some of the recipes. Her suggestion is to always add ice instead of water for a more appetizing consistency!

At any rate, so far so good. Usually I make it through about 1/2 day of anything like this. But, with green tea, water and a couple of handfuls of almonds, all went pretty well. I even made a… Read more

day 8

Is day 8 too soon to give up? I gave up diet coke, really it was just one a day and only the small ones. I am tired and I'm getting a cold. Do I have to do my yoga tonight? Can't I just call the walking around at work a workout today and promise to wake up with a new attitude tomorrow? I had a great shake for breakfast, a salad with chicken at lunch and a good dinner. This is where I start thinking about giving up.... help

Day 8: Not Liking Retoxification So much

Still feeling pretty crappy. Damn you, lady time and possible cold brewing in my system. I will fight you both!

So, I guess I should share something: after being a strict vegan for 2 years, I have decided to introduce some animal products back into my life. I will probably be dairy-free until the day I die (intense, intense lactose intolerance) and can't picture myself eating land animals, but I have decided to incorporate local, organic, cage-free eggs and some seafood back into my… Read more

I want to keep going a little longer

I want to keep with the liquid breakfast and dinner a bit longer. I feel pretty good, and I know I'm "shrinking" my stomach. I don't need big snacks between meals (how is that possible? :) ). I can have a hot tea and forget about eating for awhile.

I seem to have an unusual amount of chaos in my life lately. Today it started with me locking myself out of my house, with my husband out of town and the "extra key" locked inside the house because I gave it to the babysitter (because my… Read more

Water must be addictive...

Well, as I chose not to detox last week for medical reasons, I'm not really facing a big change today. I kept my coffee intake low and watched the amount of water I drank. For some reason, when I keep reminding myself to have a glass of water on top of every hour, it just feels like I can't get enough of it! It's like drinking water regularly actually makes me want it more often, while not drinking enough water seems to make my body get used to being parched and I completely forget about… Read more

Retox, Solid Dinners & the Second Week

A confession:

Saturday was my 4th day of detox, and I started the "retox" (ha!) process a little early. I had a smoothie for breakfast, a brown rice dish for lunch, an afternoon cup of green tea and then a smoothie dinner. But as I was watching chick flicks and catching up on some reading, I decided to sneak in a 100 calorie bag of Smart Pop Kettle Corn. And then two cookies. And that's it, I swear! I did feel a little… Read more

Day 1

Better later than never.

Finally I am able to join the community in that grand collective health plan.

Last week I didn't have a cooker, just an oven, which is not very convenient to cook soups and stir fry veggies.

But finally, last friday, I have received my belated Christmas present and I am now officially suitable to pursue the plan.

I woke up very late this morning, so much for a breakfast...

But I ate quinoa and broccoli, probably my favourite veggie. Sautéed with… Read more

Day 6 - Jan 9

Today I started with the glass of water with lemon and for lunch I had panela cheese in sauce with 2 tostadas and a glass of beet, celery and orange juice. As a snack later on I had another glass of the same juice. At night they invited me to dinner and I could'nt refuse so I had a sampler similar to Chilis with jalapeno poppers, crisscut fries with cheese and bacon bits, cheese sticks and hot wings with two martinis. As a midnight snack I ate 2 cinnamon rolls with glaze and a vanilla pudding.… Read more

Starting late

My daughter's birthday is New Year's Day and my husbands is the 9th of January. So I started the 1st Prep Day yesterday. This is going make my grocery list spike I believe but I look forward to seeing how I feel.

Week 1 Summary

I'm so proud of myself for getting through Week 1, with preschoolers, work, flooding from a busted water heater, and home-bound for days due to icy weather. I did it! :-)

I'm slowly adding things back into my diet and observing how I feel. So far, I've noticed that dairy makes me feel the worst. I can handle a small amount of cheese, but that's about it. I made myself a healthy chicken fajita salad and allowed myself some non-fat sour cream the other day. Bad idea....oh, was it a bad… Read more

I Love Fungus!

After reading the plan for Week 2, what really struck me most was about mushrooms in the Simple Food Switches for a Healthier Diet article. I love mushrooms. If something calls for veggies, I automatically think, "Well, I also HAVE to put mushrooms in with it." I always get what's cheapest and on sale because it works for me and hey, it's mushrooms. A little doesn't go anywhere, so you… Read more

Transition! Transition!

I'm amazed at how healthy, energetic and positive I feel about me and life after day 1-7 of detox. I was a bit nervous of going back to the wine habit as my husband & I often have a couple of glasses with our dinner (green salads, bread, and wine) most evenings (9pm). I always knew the wine wasn't good for me in many ways but never had the resistance to say no. I tested myself last night, and so far resistance is still there. Hope it lasts for awhile

A bit nervous on week 2 of… Read more

Joy!

You know when you're getting heavier and heavier, and your clothes aren't fitting, and you get dressed in 10 outfits before you find one that is actually presentable. You say, "I'm so fat," and your friends say, "Oh, come on, you are not!" But inside you know that it's just ridiculous how you've let yourself slide. The number on the scale is higher than it's ever been, and that's after a week of building up to even stepping on the damned thing. If you're not in the mood to lose weight,… Read more

Keeping up with exercising

Went to the gym first thing this morning -- had a great work out. Had gone for a x-country ski yesterday but was unable to get out for more than a walk on Saturday... but all in all the exercise went well last week... I have to stop making excuses and just find the time to fit in exercise. It's as easy as that!

So here we are on week 2.. so far.... so good.

Week 2: Retoxification Plan

Just a very quick, tactical post today … I went into the weekend thinking about Andriana Verdi’s post about retoxifying, and it reminded me of when my youngest daughter started solids and developed terrible eczema. The standard procedure is you eliminate all the things that might cause it, and then reintroduce foods one at a time to see what the reaction is. All the things I had to take out of her diet then, not… Read more

Week One: lessons learned

Some of the revelations I've had about myself this past week:

- As it turns out, I really do eat poorly. At the grocery store while preparing for my Week 1 detox, I noticed that my basket was mostly full with veggies. I also noted that this is a rarity when I shop. Hm.

- I am very susceptible to other people's habits and the social norms around me. If I go out with friends and they are drinking and eating delicious pulled pork nachos it's very very difficult for me to… Read more

Week 2 Day 1

I didn't write the first week. I just tried to do the best I could. I didn't lose any weight but I feel better. I stayed away from the foods to exclude. It was wild to see how addicted I am to caffeine & sweets & carbs. But I am happy that I made it. One night I had some black licorice. But other than that I stuck to the list.

I need to get more exercise into my week. That will help allot. Going to try and walk everyday this week & make it to both yoga classes. I am looking… Read more

Journal Week 2, day 1

Yipee, detox is over. My husband and I made it and it was not too difficult. A little craving here and there but we didn't give in.

Last night I was getting terrible cramps (monthly), I needed something more substantial and soothing. I had warm oatmeal on rice milk, and teaspoon of honey for dinner. It actually, made me feel better. I am not sure if it was the detox, but those cramps were bad, more than usual. I didn't want to ruin the detox so I didn't take any pain releaver. I did… Read more
