Starting....NOW!!!

Sometimes I find that what works best for me is being impulsive!!! For instance, I have been getting some email from whole living for about a year when I had friends doing the plan (from last year). So, last week I got an email about last year's plan and decided - I'm IN!!!!

What seals it though, is when I just as impulsively invite a friend. That's how I started running half marathons over two years ago. This time, I emailed my sister - and now that she's "in" too I have no way out.… Read more

Grade for first week...B

Well, the first week has passed with mixed results. I never did do the detox, but I did try to eat healthy all week. I only had a few setbacks where I broke down and had an ice cream bar or cookie. It has been more difficult than I had thought it would be, mainly because last week was also my first week back to school after six cycles of chemotherapy. I had forgotten just how exhausting it is to be 'on' all day (I teach fifth grade) and re-acclimating myself with my daily routines was a little… Read more

Cuz my knees hurt...

Ok so here goes....

As of this morning my stats are:

Height 5' 4"

Weight: 155 lbs

BMI: 26.7

Today has been quiet. Basically playing catch up around the house...laundry, dishes, feeding everyone. Since Sunday is really the only day we are all home, I try to keep it simple. I did print out everything for the plan I felt I needed to have a hard copy and will be finishing up the meal plan for the next two weeks. I have some reading to do so hubby will fix… Read more

not a fan of liquid meals!

My idea of a liquid meal is a bowl of homemade french onion soup (yes, with plenty of butter) and a glass of merlot. This has been difficult but not impossible. I did have some of the smoothies in solid form. I liked almost all of the ingredients so just eating them was easier for me than making a smoothie. I drink nut milks since regular dairy products are a no-no and that made it easy for me to have all the ingredients. Hopefully that doesn't make a difference. I just can't seem to make… Read more

Sundays: foundation for the week

I love the quiet of Sundays. I woke up this morning meditated and did some deep breathing with Rodney Yee. I felt like a million bucks when I was done. What a great way to start my day/week. I am a member of the Monday haters club but I found that when I set Sunday as a foundation for the week ahead I am better prepared mentally for the challenges and stress that inevitably lie ahead of me. For me, the mental game to keep myself in check and stick with the goals I set for myself is the hardest… Read more

Branching out with Vegetables

My husband and I keep a vegan home, full of nuts and beans and vegetables. I like to think we eat fairly healthfully (well… maybe except for all the candy), but one thing that is very true for us is that we tend to eat the same things over and over. Every single week our grocery list includes broccoli, kale, apples, carrots, spinach, and sweet potatoes. With rare exceptions, those are pretty much the vegetables we eat. Oh, we find numerous ways to prepare them, from roasting to baking to… Read more

Day 7 - Jan 10

Today I woke up soo late and since it was sunday I chose to let it go for the day. For lunch I had 3 flour tacos of chicharron with lemon and sauce and a glass of orange soda.I ate some chips as a snack watching Gossip Girl. And at night I had a crepe filled with cream cheese and apricot jam with some chocolate fudge.I was amazed how delicious the crepe was since it was my first time, I love when I cook something and it ends up being restaurant quality. Now I am sooo ready to start the week.

steadfast

This community is more supportive than I would have expected! Though I modified my own detox to simply eating more whole and pure foods, today is day 8, and probably the longest I've been able to do when I decide to avoid sugar, alcohol, dairy, processed grains, and excess caffeine. I'm not craving any of it!
Even though I still have a block of cheese, a bar of chocolate, and a six pack of beer in the fridge, there's nothing calling me to it. Thanks everyone!

Whole Living my own way.

I picked up the February issue of Whole Living hoping to kick off my new year with a bang. Although I just started, and have yet to even get to the part about the action plan, I have taken the liberty to explore and join the community, take my fitness assessment (which at 22 years old, nearly failed) and am excited to see where this takes me.

I am interested in using this journal, the magazine, and this community to guide me through to a healthier self, but there are some things I am… Read more

Energy, here I come

Hi I am just starting the detox plan today. I am a week behind, but better late than never! Right? I do not have a juicer - does anyone know if there is a way to make the juice with a blender (for example the beet juice)?

Trying day for me on Detox Day 3 (but I made it)

I wasn't able to write anything in my journal yesterday because it was inadvertently too hectic. My son is very athletic and both my husband and I encourage him in sports. In spite of my own derision of other parents who overschedule their kids' time, I found out that my son had 3 sport activities all on the same day! And my husband was away. So, three uniforms, food for my son, snacks for my son, my dreaded referee outfit in case I had to referee our first all-star game (! I don't want to make… Read more

Scene 1: The Great War

I found a photo of myself from when I was a girl -- probably no older than 10, and I was shocked at how thin I was. In fact, I was wearing a bikini. Oh no she didn't! Oh yes, I did. Excuse my disbelief, but the concept is as foreign as an 80-degree Christmas.

Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised -- my parents forbid junk food, and thanks to the three boys who lived next door, I was an active kid. I was teased for bringing celery and carrot sticks in my brown bag lunch, but had… Read more

Mrs idontexercise

I've been riding the detox wave on a parallel plane with you all. I'm over the guilt from skipping the detox because not detoxing but eating better I still lost some weight which is not good. I weigh myself every morning at the same time so I can make sure I stay within a certain range. With daily focus on yoga or 10,000 steps with eating well I lost two too many pounds. Since week two doesn't seem to have too much of a challenge, I'm going to put an extra exercise goal in there to keep me… Read more

QUESTIONS ABOUT REGULAR PRESCRIPTIONS AND CLEASING

I need to ask/research from the CLEASING program what I should do about taking my regular prescription medications for blood pressure (Norvasc 10 mg daily; Effexor XR 225 mg; Synthroid daily). I also have a Estraderm patch for hormonal replacement. Can anyone give me info or direct me how to get answer. Of course, I am continuing my medications but I am concerned how this will effect my cleansing process.

Day 6 - poor poor day :(

Unfortunately, yesterday was not as good as the past week. I gave in and had a bunch of chocolate covered almonds (at least they were almonds, I suppose..) and definitely ate waaay past 11 PM. Other then that the day still went just as planned....I guess back on the wagon for today! Even though it was only a few, my body actually feels different - I feel sort of 'weighed down' and sluggish.

Day 6

Breakfast - my 'Green' smoothie

Snack - nuts

Lunch - Butternut "burger" -… Read more

Detox: (feels like a) fail

I started out a little leery of following the detox phase of the program, but I tried to be game and follow the rules. After all, it was just four days, right? So Thursday, I dutifully drank my shakes and ate my fish. Except that...it just felt wrong to me. Here's why: I am recovering from anorexia and I am still significantly underweight. Everything I eat is scrutinized my by nutritionist, who I imagined looking at my food logs with a disdainful eye. Every backward step I take at this point… Read more
