A few weekends ago I had our apartment to myself and no plans. It was wonderful.

I'm not the type of person that, when faced with an empty schedule, will pick up the phone to start filling it up. Instead, I make lists of all the things I'd like to do that I never manage to fit in: catch up with TV shows, paint my toenails, flip through magazines. I plan out my meals ahead of time and make a little non-schedule of events. I completely look forward to this alone time treat it like almost like a date!

Here's a rundown of my latest home alone weekend...

Right after work on Friday, I headed to the gym to start the weekend off with a run on the treadmill. It was a blustery, rainy day and driving straight home to my cozy apartment was mighty tempting. But knowing that I didn't have plans later and that I didn't need to rush my workout or think about hurrying to shower and get ready made the gym seem a little bit more inviting. I'm so glad I went. I took my time working out and then stopped at my local co-op to pick up a few things before heading home. And then I had the rest of the night to do whatever I wanted!

So I put on my slippers, fixed a simple dinner and settled in on the couch. No place to go, no schedule to keep. The next day I went to the farmer's market and picked up a single cinnamon roll to enjoy later with a hot mug of coffee. And do you know what my big Saturday night plans were? A John Adams miniseries marathon! Because not many people would be on board with hour upon hour of John Adams, so it's a perfect solo activity :) Plus, it was the perfect excuse to pick up those knitting needles and finally learn to knit a hat (I'm a crocheter at heart).

I did some cleaning, made Double Dark-Chocolate and Ginger Biscotti at midnight and used a clay mask on my face-- though not a homemade one like today's challenge calls for!

What do you do when you have some alone time? Have you ever gone to the movies by yourself? I have! Or out to dinner? Or on a vacation as a solo traveler?

Loved the John Adams book too, it was one of my summer reading choices this year!

John Adams was great! And the book is even better! (JA is my hero, dawg. And his wife rocks, too.) The other day I was at the N-Y Historical Society and held a letter written by Abigail in 1790.

My mother is a lone wolf, and I've definitely inherited her behavior patterns -- I do many things on my own, museum visits, shopping, movies and live performances.

Having your place to yourself is a nice treat once in a while, and it seems you used your time wisely!

Oh yes I feel your pleasure! Much as I love my family, I love having the place to myself for a while. I can "putter' to my heart's content, and actually make it through a while issue of Whole Living before someone yells "Moooommmm!"
