It's the time of year when our thoughts (and eyes, thanks to retailers) turn to the idea of love. Valentine's Day is supposed to be a day to celebrate the romance in our lives, but I think it should be more about celebrating the love in our lives. Love can be romantic, familial, platonic, and the most amazing of all, unconditional. To be loved, in some way, is to feel successful in life, no matter the circumstances. When we feel at our lowest, sometimes hearing that we are loved can bring us back from the deepest, darkest of places. When we're losing in life, love can help us win. How often have you seen (or been) a person who acts in a way that seems irrational? How often, at the root of his/her behavior, is a feeling of a lack of love?
Take the time to tell your loved ones that you love them. The first and last words my husband and I speak to each other every day are, "I love you."
