Once again I find myself in line at Chipotle. My husband could eat Mexican food every day. When he suggests Mexican food for dinner, I’ll admit that he usually gets the stink eye. Why? Because although there are several healthy elements involved in building a taco or burrito, there are also several fattening ones. Plus, who can eat Mexican food without chips and guacamole?
One of my hubby’s favorite spots is Chipotle. Usually, while in line I think about all the calories we’re about to consume and how we’ll burn them off. The last time I was in line I started reading the menu and nutritional information and to my surprise Chipotle provides its customers with quality food. Check out their commitment:
“Food with integrity is our commitment. To finding the very best ingredients raised with respect for the animals, the environment and the farmers. It means serving the very best sustainably raised food possible with an eye to great taste, great nutrition and great value. It means that we support and sustain family farmers who respect the land and the animals in their care. It means that whenever possible we use meat from animals raised without the use of antibiotics or added hormones. And it means that we source organic and local produce when practical. And that we use dairy from cows raised without the use of synthetic hormones. Food With Integrity is a journey that started more than a decade ago and one that will never end.”
I am extremely impressed that Chipotle supports local farmers, which means that a lot of their produce and meat is organic. They also support family owned farms, which most of us know are quickly disappearing. Many restaurants buy the cheapest ingredients possible so that they can make the biggest profit possible. Thus, sacrificing their customer’s health. It’s refreshing to know that at Chipotle I will receive great tasting food made with high quality ingredients. I am officially a Chipotle fan!
Chipotle’s calorie calculator
This article was inspired by my coworker, Linda Smalley who opened my eyes to Chipotle’s calorie calculator – > http://www.chipotlecaloriecalculator.com/
This calculator allows you to create your meal while watching the calories add up. Linda and her husband choose Chipotle when they need to grab a quick bite because they have created meals that have reasonable calorie counts. Linda shared a story with me about going to a fast food joint to grab burgers for dinner. By the time they received their food they realized that their meal had enough calories for 1.5 days.
Choose a burrito bowl and go light or without the chips, rice, corn, guacamole, sour cream and salad dressing for a lighter version of this delicious indulgence.
So, the next time you need to grab a quick bite, choose Chipotle.
