Gabourey Sidibe Healthy Weight Image?

I want to put this out there-after seeing Precious (which was amazing), I applauded the acceptance of a bigger woman into Hollywood. I also started wondering if it's a healthy weight image for women to have such a large woman as an example in the media.

In Hollywood, where the gorgeous Christina Hendricks is considered "big", and with all the stick-figures with balloon boobs, we have a woman who would be considered morbidly obese by most standards in the mix now. Does the pendulum swing too far in the other direction now? Is it healthy? Where do the normal-looking women fit into Hollywood? Just something I've been tooling around with. No disrespect to women of ANY size, they're all beautiful.

I totally agree Sarah, I think people ignored it just so that it wouldn't take away from her much deserved moment in the sun.

I see your point, though. I'm all for the "big and beautiful" attitude, but sometimes the women are so overweight that they are in a dire health situation. Seems crazy to ignore that.

This is something that's confused me as well. You can't even mention Christina Hendrick's name without calling attention to and thereby open debate on her figure. Personally, I find that shape to be ideal and find the constant debate about her "big"ness to be really disgusting.

Although, I dont think I've heard anyone in the media discussing Gabourey Sidibe's weight as healthy or desirable (and believe me I watch all the Oscar coverage). I think it's nice that she's been able to enjoy her accomplishments without having to deal with constant scrutiny about her weight. We all know what morbidly obese is, but that doesn't take away from her performance. Hopefully she will pursue a healthier lifestyle. Not for her image, just for herself.
