Last night I went grocery shopping for food to last me all of next week. I got everything on my shopping list except a few things (salmon and chicken; I'll buy those later so they'll be more fresh). And guess how much my bill was! $127.91. Holy crap! On the plus side, nearly all of my produce is organic. I suppose that makes it worth it.

So far, between the juicer and all the groceries I've bought, I've spent over $200 on this plan. I'm beginning to think that only rich people can be healthy and skinny.

This is what 127.91 dollars of food looks like...

Most expensive item: pine nuts ($12.97). Whoops, I got a half a pound out of the bulk bin. Guess I would have been better off just buying a jar.
Least expensive item: a single jalapeño pepper ($0.33).

On a more positive note, I cleaned out my entire refrigerator. I threw away a ton of my roommate's old food. I made fresh-squeezed orange juice out of the 5 pound bag of oranges that I know she would never eat. I found stuff in there that definitely would qualify as a science experiment. But now, the fridge is sparkling and full of fresh fruits, vegetables, and almond milk. Yay!

And yes, I know, I need to take down my Christmas tree.

Thanks for the tips! I've actually been looking for a good place to eat lunch at the U. I had a friend show me where those places are today!

I gave Hy-Vee a try since their organic/health section is so big now. Found pure almond butter for $6-something. I made the peach-almond butter smoothie last night with some almond milk and a pinch of cardamom (also at Hy-Vee) and it was really good!
FYI: At the hospital, Melrose Dining is a nice place to eat lunch. There is also a Bread Garden lunch cart up on the sixth or seventh floor by the hospital library, which isn't as crowded.

New Pi has the best almond butter! You can grind it yourself at a little station across from the milk. It is soooo good. And it's nice to know there aren't any preservatives.
Too bad I didn't have you to show me around today and yesterday!

One day down! I hope you didn't get too lost. My boys were at the U for a month after they were born, and I felt like a pro getting around by the time they came home. You'll be fine:) Does New Pi have almond butter?

I did get my groceries at the Co-op.
My first day of the internship went pretty well. I was only there for half a day, and basically spent it doing paperwork. Tomorrow will be my first whole day. I have to say I'm a little nervous. I'm not sure if I can find my way to where I'm supposed to be!

Hi! I am from Coralville:) Did you go to the Co-op? I went to Fareway in NL last night and spend the same amount:( FYI: They have a whole side of salmon in the freezer section for $4.99! I think there are about 6 servings.
