The tip of my nose is tingly-kind of numb.  It seems to go numb when I am stressed, overtired or upset.   It's been going on for about two weeks so I visited my doctor.  He informed me my blood pressure was high...really high.

Low blood pressure runs in my family.  Which is ironic considering obsesity also runs in our family.  Yes we are an enigma - fat with low blood pressure.

So the fact that my pressure is running high was a cause for concern.  "Have you been stressed out lately?"  he inquired.  I tell him that yes I am stressed out but no more than the average woman who is a wife and mother.  He replied that I have 30 days to get this blood pressure down or I will be faced with taking medication the rest of my life.

Thirty days....hmmmm good thing the 28 day Action Plan from Wholeliving.com promises to whip me into shape and 2 days short of my deadline.  Can't wait to start!

I totally agree about the blood pressure - I am going to check it next time I go in a Walmart or Walgreens - great idea.  I tried Yoga and I loved it but it was very hard on my wrist (I am a dentist so they already get beaten up) but I saw a 'wrist guard' in a yoga magazine once and considered buying it.  Next time you go to class would you look around to see if anyone is wearing one?  Or would you ask your teacher what she thinks of the guard because I really liked it.  We don't have a class local but I got a DVD from Rodney Yee (I think his name it) also I tape programs off of fit TV.  Thanks!

Debi,

It is common for blood pressure to be high at the doctor's office - factors include rushing to get there and being anxious about what the doctor will say.  It is often the first thing they do are you enter the examining room and so, there is little time to calm down before.  I have noticed a difference between appointments that I am relaxed about and those I am anxious about.  It might be good to check it yourself sometimes - like at WalMart or somewhere where they have a free tester.

Not to dismiss symptoms.  And my blood pressure has been a bit elevated lately too.  I've been doing yoga for about a year now.  It is a half hour drive to get there; and so, I can only go once a week on Sat morning.  Still, it also allows me to go to the larger, better stocked WalMart, in that larger town.  That means I'm usually gone from home for about 5 hours total and that really gobbles up a day.  Still, I would not give up the yoga.  I have a great teacher, very down to earth but very capable, and she always has us leaving with a smile on our face.  Yoga is great for getting in tune with your body and calming your mind - wholistically.  I highly recommend it.
