Somehow I managed to make it through yesterday as a semi successful day one of the reboot.

Food: I managed to eat only lowfat proteins, no gluten, no dairy, no soy, etc. yesterday. Most importantly, no processed! I started off the day with a bit of a tummy ache from a few too many indulgences over the weekend and ended the day feeling rehydrated and refreshed. Quinoa and fresh berries for breakfast leads to a day of feeling revitalized.

Movement: I’m training for a half marathon and yesterday was my sprint interval day. Because of the sheer exhaustion of sprinting and recovering for 40 minutes (and lack of hours in day) I didn’t take on the fitness test yesterday. I have an easy jog tonight so I will be doing Series A today. I did, however, meditate for a good 10 minutes before bed.

Life: I hit the hay by 11 but unfortunately tossed and turned for some time. I went electronic free for the last hour before bed, but with my boyfriend up late watching Tron (we live in a loft condo) there was no escaping loud action movie sounds, even with ear plugs. I had to be at work by 6:30 this morning to lead a call with Dublin so I maybe got in six hours of sleep. Maybe. Tonight I’m going to ask if we can have an electronic free household after 10 across the board.

Mind: When I think about what I’d like to get out of the Reboot, a couple things come to mind.

  • Aid digestion – already feeling a ton better after day 1 with loss of bloating from the weekend
  • Understand the stress in my life – focusing on an early bed time, meditation, and how I feel, really does help me to understand what I’m stressing about because I pay attention to where my mind wanders. 90% of my stress will always come from work, but I’m noticing how much the TV bothers me. I really need quiet time.
  • Movement is very easy for me since I’m an athlete, but the focus on slowing down my workouts and practicing simple flows is interesting to me. Let’s see if I can complete this or if I find myself diving into a power flow or sprinting on the treadmill again.

We’ll see how day 2 goes – so far so good. I’m looking forward to my body feeling even more refreshed after two days of very pure eating.

Deb I really don't know how you do it. This weekend I had four friends in town and I am not exhausted from playing hostess all weekend, and the plan is very thrown off! I am actually going to start with Day 1 again tomorrow, since I really only got through Day 3 on Thursday before the weekend ensued. How is Day 2 going for you?

Robin,

Starting my actual Day 1 diet at mid-day on Sat, June 4th - with the Avocado & Lime snack because I was feeling hungry and dinner's a few hours off still.  Though I should be just "mindfully" eating this; and Avocado & Salt are one of my life's favorites anytime (I grew up on the Mexican border, where Avocados are a basic food), I had never had one with Olive Oil & Lime.

Back to "mindfulness", I'm reading your blog, while I eat.  To really eat mindfully, would be to sit on my porch, away from the household chaos.  It is a favorite for me to connect more to my food but it is 102 in the shade today, so I'm just hanging out inside.

Like you, I find that meditation is good for knowing what is flowing through my mind, when I'm not being mindful about it.  Saturday is my yoga day and I give up the daily hike through the forest for it, for I have to drive 40 mi away to go to class.  Therefore, though I'd love to go to yoga class at least twice a week, it seems too disruptive to my family for me to go mid-week; and so, I accept that it will be once a week.

I love the way that yoga has reconnected me to my BODY, in ways that I have NEVER been inhabiting it before.  If "the Flow" routine is "the Yoga" I saw in Whole Living magazine recently, which I had copied and enlarged so I could see the positions better and read the small type, then I will love it.

I live with 2 boys (one almost 7 and one 10) and my husband in the equivalent of a one-room cabin farmhouse.  Probably not all that different, in effect, to your loft.  Getting to bed "early" is an on-going challenge that we attempt to get the better of; and though we do not have commercial TV, the kid's are quite attached to videos to slow their bodies down and quiet them at bedtime.  Otherwise, they'd be bouncing off the walls doing acrobatics.

Our "big room" is 2 large King-size platform mattresses as the bedroom, the "entertainment center/big screen", the kids playroom and our home-based business' office.  Talk about a challenge.  If we don't ALL get on the same "schedule", it is difficult to sleep with the others involved in their activities; but I HAVE, when I've been tired enough.  Going to sleep before the rest of the family is still very rare for me.

Joining in a little "virtual" time-shift to your Day 1 -

Deb

Sounds like you're off to a good start - you did much better on your Day One than I did.  Congrats!!  :D
