Resolutions and Resources
Common New Years resolutions are centered primarily on health, wellness and weight loss. Advertisements promoting diets, fitness and supplements sprout simultaneously with bathing suit sales before the first seeds are planted at our local farms. Ironically, chocolate temptations line the shelves as stores prepare for Valentine’s Day, when a gym membership or yoga session may seem more appropriate. Successful resolutions require tenacious perseverance and accurate, reliable resources.
If you have resolved to be healthier this year start with a cookbook. Purchasing one quality cookbook can really help focus and direct your resolution. But with so many choices available, confusion may ensue. Here are some resource suggestions for your healthy cooking endeavors!
Avoid cookbook/diet regimens which suggest replacing multiple meals with supplement shakes or pills. Also avoid diet plans which exclude entire categories from the food pyramid. Quality books should help you include a balanced selection of healthy whole foods into your diet instead of providing a list of exclusions.
Look for cookbooks utilizing fresh produce, lean meats, and whole grains as their main ingredients. A recipe with numerous ingredients may appear daunting for beginner chefs so try simpler recipes from a book you feel comfortable with. Finally, dedicate time to reading, planning, and executing!
