Secondhand Score!
For the past year, I've been trying to find a basic tall 4-drawer file cabinet that is a) sturdy and b) under $100. And I can assure you--as an editor whose job it is to find specific products on a daily basis--this is practically impossible.
The other weekend, we went to Build It Green, which accepts donations of used building supplies and furniture and sells them for very reasonable prices. (We had some old ill-fitting doors from our apartment to drop off.) And there, back in the corner was an entire fleet of 4-drawer file cabinets--each just $30! Judging by the stickers, this guy and all his siblings must have come from a local police precinct. I think I'll just leave them on and file them under "character."

That's pretty cool. I'm going to have to check Build it Green out-I need odds and ends around the house and don't exactly have a Design Within Reach budget!

Very cool! Are you going to leave them industrial-khaki, or are will you spray-paint them a color that will contrast with the police sticker?
