Made it through the challenge and learned so much. Even though I haven't done everything perfectly - I have created some great habits. I have a smoothie with whey protein every morning, salad for lunch and a good dinner. Where I have fallen short is on the exercise portion of this journey. I just can't get myself to overcome anything (sore knees, achy head, busy schedule, too tired) to make it to the gym. I walk the dogs twice/day but I know that's not enough.

So my continuing challenge is to find a way to make the gym non-negotiable. It is 5 minutes from my house and I have a paid-for membership. So no excuses there either. This is a case of the flesh is willing but the mind says "not today". Any clues how to jump start this important part of getting healthy? Help, help, help!

I dunno if this is just me, but I hate, hate running. You can tell me the benefits until you're blue in the face, and I will still despise it. However, I typically really like exercising itself, because I specifically pick things I enjoy! Power yoga, belly dancing, Zumba classes, things that really leave me feeling good afterwards. Maybe what you're doing at the gym just isn't for you?

Linda, I have the same problem with the gym... its five minutes away, but sometimes the thought of going puts me over the edge.  I always feel good when I leave...  I'm trying to break out a routine that I've developed of doing things out of guilt... this is a tough one!

In Week-4 I started using an app on my iPhone to record calories consumed and burned.  When I discovered how much lower my net calories consumed (calories consumed minus calories burned) was on days that I actually exercised, it really motivated me to get moving.  On days when I really wasn't feeling like exercising I'd tell myself to just do half of what I normally do.  Just do something!  And once I hopped on the treadmill or elliptical, I found myself completing a full workout.  Sometimes just getting myself on that machine, even though I REALLY did't want to exercise, is all it took to sneak a workout in.  But I know exactly where you're coming from!  It is hard to get started.  Once you do, though, I'll bet you find yourself in a good rhythm and won't think twice about exercising.
