May 23 -- This week's assignment: Ride a Bike. Fresh air, exercise, extra cash in your pocket -- you know the benefits of swapping your car for a bike every once in a while. But as the country gets more cycle-friendly, your trusty two-wheeler could become your default mode of transportation.

This week, forget all of your excuses -- "I'll get sweaty," "I have too much stuff to carry," "I don't have the right gear," -- and rediscover the joy of riding. Whether you pedal to work, to the store, with kids, or with friends, we've got tips to make it easy and fun.

Today, take the first step: Don't own a bike? Read our gear guide to determine what type of bike -- and what accessories -- might be best for the type of riding you have in mind.

Already own a bike? Get it out of storage, pump the tires, and take it for a spin.

Tomorrow, Tune into the "Martha" show for more bike-riding tips.

I rode twice this weekend, for the first time in 20 years. Discovered a rail trail network ten minutes from my apt that goes along a river and is rarely used.

Has anyone else noticed that Google Maps now provides bike directions, in addition to car, walking, and public transit?

Rode my bike to work today in New York City! it was 'no excuse' weather. The increased number of bike paths - even on busy avenues is fabulous - thanks Mayor Bloomberg!
