Wow did yesterday lay me low! This flu thing is the pits! Hacking and coughing should count as core muscle exercises. I stayed in bed all day yesterday, wobbling to the kitchen a couple of times - the first being for a glass of carrot, melon and fennel juice. The next time I was a little more ambitious and made a smoothie - banana, avocado, kiwi with bee pollen and pineapple juice. By the time I got back into the bed after that venture, my head was definitely on the route to spinning. For dinner I had a mug of chicken stock.
Today I am feeling a little bit better, though the coughing hasnt subsided as much as my body would like. I had some juice for breakfast - carrot, beet, cucumber and ginger (boyfriend made). That was really good, and I was able to sit up on the couch. Then around lunch time I started feeling like I wanted something more substantial to eat.
I made some soft scrambled eggs with a little bit of sauted asparagus in half of a whole wheat pita. It was mild and comforting. I also had some more juice - some fresh grapefruit this time. The solid food seems to be sitting pretty well with me. :) I know that the juice intake is pretty high, but I have to take into account the complete LACK of calorie intake. I can rationalize it that way. I NEED the fuel and the vitamins.
I just want to say that I am proud of all of those people out there who are going through some kind of bodily invasion and are still trying to maintain a healthy detoxifying January. I know it isn't easy. I know that the 28 day challenge is supposed to be about overall lifestyle management. I feel that this bout of flu has kept me from participating fully in the challenge (ie excercise!), but I am participating in the ways that I can. I am trying to be patient with my body and tell myself that I can participate in those more active aspects as soon as I feel better. Here's to better living.
